**Public Health Intelligence Lead - Health and Justice Programme**

**Location - Edinburgh / Glasgow**

Public Health Scotland is a new organisation between the Scottish Government and Local Government, working in partnership, to provide leadership to improve and protect the health and wellbeing of the people of Scotland.

We are looking for a Public Health Intelligence Lead to help us deliver our new Health and Justice Programme. The postholder will work to achieve the programme goal for PHS to become a valued and embedded partner within the justice system, and that public health approaches are used to tackle health and justice issues in a systematic, sustainable and cohesive way to ultimately improve the health and wellbeing of the Scottish population.

The postholder will develop and lead on complex and multifaceted programmes of public health science work designed to inform and influence action in partnership with justice partners including the Police, Scottish Prison Service and Community Justice Scotland. Your work will be focussed on supporting the development of public health programmes and approaches to (1) understand and address the underlying causes or crime, reoffending and revictimisation, and (2) reduce the negative impacts and strengthen the positive impacts that the justice system can have on the health and wellbeing of those in contact with it. The successful applicant will need strong public health and epidemiological skills, with work ranging from identification of key issues, gathering evidence on what works, designing programmes and supporting a team to deliver them, and embedding public health principles and programme findings into practice.

The postholder will develop key relationships, and work across Public Health Scotland to deliver projects using core public health skills around data and intelligence, evidence and evaluation. The postholder will work closely with the Consultant in Public Health lead for the portfolio.
