**Job Purpose**

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**

**Research**
The appointee will have an established interest in research with a record of achievement in an area relevant to existing interests in the School of Health & Wellbeing within the College of MVLS. The appointee will be expected to:

For this post the applicant will develop their program of research under the supervision of senior academic staff including Professor S. Vittal Katikireddi.
Academic support will be available during all annual research and training assessments to ensure that there is adequate balance between academic and clinical training.

**Teaching**
The anticipation is that protected non-clinical time will be predominantly used for research. This post is not suitable for trainees wishing to develop a predominantly teaching or educational portfolio. However, it is expected that the Lecturer will contribute to delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching activities. These might include:

- Teaching or supervision within Postgraduate taught or research courses within the School of Health & Wellbeing, including supervision of Masters in Public Health dissertations.
- Contributing to undergraduate public health teaching, such as lectures and seminars.

**Administrative Duties**
The Lecturer will contribute to administrative duties related to research and general running of the School of Health & Wellbeing or research theme as directed by their supervisor.

**Clinical Duties**-Clinical academic training will be the focus of the post with a 60:40 split between clinical and academic activity. The allocation of research and clinical time is flexible and various patterns of working are possible to suit differing research and clinical requirements. Applications will be welcome from trainees who are working less than full time, and the job plan will be adapted to suit such trainees.

**Knowledge/Qualifications**

**Essential**:

- For medically qualified applicants:_-A2. Master of Public Health (MPH) or equivalent.
A3. Completion of the Faculty of Public Health Membership (Part A and Part B examinations).
A4. All applicants must already have a national training number at the time of taking up the post.
- For non-medically qualified applicants:_
A5. A first degree (1st or 2:1 or equivalent grade) or a higher certificated degree (Master’s or PhD).
A6. Master of Public Health (MPH) or equivalent.
A7. Completion of the Faculty of Public Health Membership (Part A and Part B examinations).
A8. All applicants must already have a national training number at the time of taking up the post.

**Desirable**:

- For medically qualified applicants:_For both medically and non-medically qualified applicants:_
B2. MD or PhD related to public health awarded, submitted or close to submission.

**Experience/Training**

**Essential**:

- For medically qualified applicants:_
C1. A minimum of 24 months of postgraduate medical experience
C2. Evidence of achievement of foundation competencies
- For non-medically qualified applicants:_
C3. At least 24 months of experience relevant to population health practice.
C4. At least 60 months (whole time equivalent) of work experience at time of appointment

**Desirable**:

D1. Experience and aptitude for public health research on the social determinants of health, and in particular, the economic determinants of health
D2. Previous evidence of oral and poster presentations
D3. Evidence of publication or experience in academic writing, especially internationally outstanding research outputs
D4. Experience in securing external research funding, such as fellowship funding or project funding.

**Special Aptitudes and Ability**

**Essential**:

E3. Ability to manage research projects.
E4. Ability to work towards the Institute, College and University objectives
E5. Excellent communication skills with all stakeholders in research

**Interpersonal Skills**

**Essential**:

G1. Strong interpersonal skills, including ability to work within a diverse research team (such as with economists, statisticians and research software engineers).

H1. Capacity for originality and innovation.

**Terms and Conditions**
Salary will be on the Clinical Academic scale £43,504 - £64,461 per annum
The post will carry an additional entitlement depending on on-call responsibilities. This banding payment is paid under a separate arrangement with the NHS for which the University acts as paymaster only.
This post is full time and fixed term for up to 6 years.
