**About the Organisation**:
Public Health Scotland is a new organisation, set up to improve the lives of people in Scotland, to reduce health inequalities that persist in many of our communities. It’s an exciting time to join the organisation, with PHS at the forefront of Scotland’s efforts to tackle Coronavirus and its implications across society.
**The Post**:
Public Health Sciences is a team of approximately 40 staff, committed to improving population health and reducing health inequalities, focusing on the fundamental causes. We employ three main approaches: data and intelligence; evaluation; and evidence synthesis.
We have a vacancy for 1WTE permanent Public Health Intelligence Adviser, to sit largely within the data and intelligence function. We use information from a range of sources to better understand the health of the Scottish population, the factors that affect it and contribute to evaluation and monitoring activity.
Our current work includes the following, although we pick up new work areas such as commercial determinants of health:
- Understanding economic determinants of health and how to deliver an economy that supports health and wellbeing
- Understanding recent trends in life expectancy
- Highlighting the impact of welfare reform on Scotland’s population
- Generating high quality information about children’s health and wellbeing and reducing child poverty
- Understanding and promoting public mental health
Your work will involve leading in the provision of evidence-informed public health intelligence to address the key public health needs; building relationships with a range of stakeholders to enable meaningful engagement to ensure our work meets their needs; contribute to the overall planning and development of the team’s work; and providing advice, guidance and leadership around national data sources, to ensure that they best meet public health intelligence needs.- Want to work in an exciting and changing public health environment, in a supportive and enthusiastic team

**Location and Working Pattern**:
Gyle Square, Edinburgh or Meridian Court, Glasgow.
Please noted that PHS is currently in the process of relocating from Meridian Court to another Glasgow City Centre location.
Public Health Scotland operate a hybrid model of working offering the post-holder flexibility to combine homeworking with working from either of our offices in Glasgow or Edinburgh.
Work pattern - Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week.
During times of public health emergency, or other urgent business need, you may be required on a temporary basis to work your normal contracted working hours over 7 days including weekends, in order to meet the needs of the service.
It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with PHS.
