The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to develop innovative approaches to teaching, research and sector/industry engagement in the UK and internationally within a collegial and supportive work environment.

We particularly seek expertise in public relations practice, and in academic research - with the ability to teach research methodologies appropriate to our post-graduate students’ research in media and public relations.

The role-holder should have experience of practicing and teaching Public Relations and with both an applied and academic knowledge of digital communications, global PR, and crisis management in historical and present-day contexts. The role-holder will be expected to provide cutting-edge innovations to our Media and Public Relations curricula.

MA Media and Public Relations MA International Multimedia Journalism MA Media and Journalism BA (Hons) Media, Communication and Cultural Studies BA (Hons) Journalism, Media and Culture BA (Hons) Digital Cultures and Media.

Our team also supervises a number of PhD students.

The University has developed a Teaching and Scholarship Role Profiles document which summarises the range of activities that colleagues may be expected to perform.

Key Accountabilities
Leading and contributing to modules on the MA programmes as well as on our UG Media, Communication and Cultural Studies, and our Journalism, Media and Culture programmes.
Contributing to the curriculum development for postgraduate programmes in media and public relations.
Contributing to existing MCH modules through lectures, seminars, workshops, tutorials, masterclasses, field trips, assessments and marking, and the supervision of BA and MA students.
Undertaking scholarship and practice activities at a level commensurate with a leading international university.
Raising our profile with the communications sector professionals through organising events which bring together practitioners and academics, as well as through your own scholarship collaborations with sector organisations.

The Person (Essential)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Advanced knowledge and experience of the theory and practice of PR and communications internationally, with the ability to articulate these clearly to a wide range of different audiences.
Advanced professional experience of working within the media and PR sector and working for, and with, public relations practitioners, ideally within an international context.
Proven ability, knowledge and experience to expand the intellectual and critical study of public relations as an academic discipline relating to commercial, historical, cultural and political contexts.
Advanced experience of teaching and supervising diverse cohorts of students in areas relevant but not limited to media, public relations, research methods, global PR, digital communications, promotional cultures and crisis communications, and particularly of teaching which integrates PR theory and practice.
Proven ability to contribute to and lead on the design, organisation and management of degree programmes from the outset.
Applicants must demonstrate (through formal or informal actions) a commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and widening participation in their spheres of work.

Ability to work enthusiastically and positively with domestic and international students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Excellent communication, organisation and IT skills, with a clear ability to meet deadlines.
Proven ability to work within a team, underlined by strong intercultural communication skills.
Ability and willingness to develop innovative and effective teaching materials appealing to students from diverse backgrounds with an emphasis on curriculum internationalisation and decolonisation.
Advanced ability to network and initiate collaborations with academic and sectoral partners at a senior level.

**Qualifications**:
The Person (Desirable)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Advanced experience of teaching international and political PR as well as crisis management and freelancing in communication at UG and PG level. Familiarity with the training curriculum used by the CIPR or any other PR institute. Evidence of engagement in existing national and/or international networks and professional bodies within media and public relations, ideally with membership of a professional body such as the CIPR. Experience of co-ordinating student placements with national and international industry partners. A commitment to innovative pedagogical approaches to teaching.
