**My client, a very successful SME, circa 10 mill with approx 50 staff and based in South Petherton between Yeovil and Taunton/Chard in South Somerset has retained me exclusively to find them an experienced Purchasing Manager for a permanent careeropportunity. Unlike a lot of companies during these difficult times my client is actually thriving and in a position of high growth due to careful/shrewd planning and the specialist products they produce. They are forecast to reach £30 mill in next 5 years.**
- This is a very senior position requiring a person of confidence and mature mind. The successful applicant would most likely have extensive experience in this position with a similar SME.
- Efficient and ongoing assessment of the company's costs for the best possible negotiated pricing across a wide spectrum of products is paramount to the future health and prosperity of the company both in terms of profitability but of equal importance toour ability to be competitive in a global market.
- As the company goes forward, even a 1% reduction in our cost base would have a huge impact on the bottom line
- The successful applicant will have a strong engineering background in the need to understand and appreciate a wide range of purchased products, from raw materials, plastics, steels, alloys...electronic items, PLC, relays, switchgear, HVAC equipment etc.
- Possess excellent communication skills and be well versed in understanding the purchasing status across the entire current contract list.
- Working closely with senior management in the understanding of the company's strategic objectives and business plan / budget for the foreword planning of the purchasing requirements over a 12 month period and beyond.
- Would be joining the company at a time of projected very strong growth over the next five years to £30M turnover. The successful applicant will be a strong character and and the position itself will grow as the company embarks on its next stage of developmentand growth.

**Objective**:

- Ensure specifications, quantity and quality of orders are correct
- Verify stock and identify losses
- Maintain an organised warehouse layout
- Maintain minimum stock levels for production

**Key responsibilities**:

- Forecast levels of demand for services and products
- Keep a constant check on stock levels
- Improve stock turn
- Source best products and suppliers in terms of value, delivery schedules and quality
- Build and maintain good relationships with new and existing suppliers
- Negotiate and agree contracts, tenders and sourcing arrangements
- Monitor the quality of service provided
- Check and authorise payments and invoices
- Keep contract files and use them as reference for the future
- Ensure suppliers are aware of business objectives
- Troubleshoot cost, quality and delivery concerns
- Manage risk relating to quality, cost, delivery and supply of purchases

**Skills and experience**:

- Good oral and written communication skills
- At least five years experience as buyer/specifier in engineering environment
- Strong analytical skills
- Commercial acumen
- Ability to adapt to different client needs and to develop and maintain successful working relationships
- Excellent standard of numeracy
- A flair for negotiation and networking
- Ability to make important decisions and cope with pressure of demanding targets and tight deadlines
- A confident and mature approach
