- Job description- We are looking for Project Support Officers to support the delivery of exciting, innovative projects including flood risk management studies and schemes that reduce the risk of flooding to communities and enhance the environment.
You will give teams the support they need to do their jobs more effectively by assisting Project Managers on the delivery of their projects or completing office administrative tasks for the whole team. It’s a valued role with a diverse range of work across a wide range of projects, giving you an in-depth understanding of large-scale projects.
You will become involved in a range of activities such as handling and processing data, setting up new project workspaces, organising and taking meeting minutes, preparing notice of entry letters and public newsletters, ordering site signage, running reports, and accompanying Project Managers on site visits.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
- The team- Each PCM hub is led by a Delivery Manager overseeing between 70-120 staff, supported by Programme Specialists, Programme Managers and Project Team Managers (PTM). Each PTM manages 8-15 Project Executives, Project Managers and Project Support Officers who manage the day-to-day delivery of projects within our flood & coastal erosion risk management programme using our framework suppliers. Other internal roles forming part of our integrated delivery teams include commercial, environmental, asset managers, financial, estates, and legal.
- Experience/skills required
- A Levels (or equivalent) are desirable. Subjects that may be particularly advantageous include maths/statistics, geography, English, environmental studies, business studies, economics and computer science.
- Confidence in using MS Office.
- Numeracy and report writing skills, analytical skills to solve problems, take responsibility and make decisions and data management.
- Good organisational and planning skills essential.
- This role interacts with many different contacts across the Environment Agency, so a background of working in a customer-facing environment, demonstrating good communication skills useful. You should be positive, enjoy helping colleagues and take pride in your work.
- Some experience of working in a project environment useful.
- Able to work under pressure, prioritising workload and meeting deadlines.
