KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Completion of Internal Medicine Training competencies or equivalent. At least 12-months' experience working within the NHS in Acute, General or Elderly Medicine, or Infectious Diseases, of which 6-months should be at Registrar-level. DUTIES OF THE POST To ensure high quality and safe care of patients within the department resulting in excellent clinical outcomes. To contribute directly to patient care by, for example, reviewing patients, organising investigations and acting on results, initiating and changing treatment, and speaking to patients and their relatives/carers about their illness and clinical progress.

To undertake essential administrative duties, including prescribing, writing electronic discharge letters, and liaising with colleagues in primary care. To contribute to a multidisciplinary approach to patient care, working collaboratively with a large team of allied healthcare professionals, including the Early Discharge Assessment Team, specialist nurses and physiotherapists. You will be provided with a tailored job plan in which 20% of your time will be allocated to non-clinical duties to allow you to pursue a specialist interest in (a) teaching and education, (b) simulation, (c) research, or (d) quality Improvement. LEVELS OF RESPONSIBILITY The post-holder will be expected to work at the level of a Registrar.

They will have access to supervision and support from a Consultant at all times. TEACHING AND RESEARCH/STUDY AND TRAINING Protected non-clinical time will be provided as described. There will be opportunity for undergraduate teaching. Study leave is available, at the discretion of Educational Supervisors, for courses/training related to Acute, General and Elderly Medicine, or Infectious Diseases.

Applications are invited for Clinical Fellow (CF) positions within the Specialty and Integrated Medicine Care Clinical Service Unit at St Jamess University Hospital, Leeds. They are ideally suited to post-Foundation Year 2 junior doctors who have yet to decide their chosen career pathway or who are not yet ready to enter a formal training scheme. Our CF posts, which are fixed-term for 12-months, are designed to provide excellent clinical training in Acute and General Internal Medicine, Elderly Medicine, Diabetes and Endocrinology, and Infectious Diseases. Successful applicants will be given an opportunity to work within our Same Day Emergency Care service, on our Acute Medical Units, on our in-patient wards, and in our new Centre for Reconditioning.

In addition, post-holders will be asked to contribute to our exciting Research and Innovation (R&I) programme, and will be supported to develop a specialist interest in one (or more) of the following areas: (a) Medical Management (b) Quality Improvement (c) Research (d) Teaching and education (e) Simulation Each CF will be allocated a named Educational Supervisor with whom they will develop a tailored training and R&I plan. This will involve an 80% : 20% split between clinical duties and dedicated time to pursue their non-clinical specialism. The department is hard-working, friendly and co-operative. There is a strong focus on continual improvement, multi-disciplinary team work, clinical excellence, and patient safety and quality.

There are excellent training facilities at St Jamess. Across the CSUs, educational meetings are held on most days of the week.
