London, United Kingdom The Mayhew Animal Home Full time

**Contract length**:Permanent
**Location**:North West London
**Hours per week**:35
**Salary**: £27k-£32k pa depending on experience and knowledge
**First interview date**:Friday, 10th February 2023, Microsoft Teams
**Second interview date**: Tuesday, 15th February 2023, in-person interview

**Every dog and cat in need deserves expert, personalised care and support, and to be loved. When you work for Mayhew, you understand that better than ever.**
We’re a passionate, committed and diverse team of c80 staff and c150 volunteers, here for dogs, cats and communities in the UK, in Afghanistan and in Georgia. We offer expert veterinary care, rescue and rehoming services, programmes in the community and guidance and support to improve the lives of dogs and cats in need.
We do our best for dogs and cats in need every day, working with colleagues across the sector to improve their lives and to give them the care, support and love they deserve. But it’s our warmth, creativity and care that touch lives. Here, we take the time to really get to know the dogs and cats we care for and those who love them.
Our c150 volunteers are an integral and valued part of the Mayhew community. Some volunteers help to ensure dogs and cats in our care are well looked after while others work with us across functions, including in receptions and operational roles, fundraising, community outreach and much more.
This is a highly visible and important role for Mayhew. Our Volunteer & Reception Coordinator works across all teams with staff and volunteers, foster carers, adopters, other charities and rescues and members of the public. Our Volunteer & Reception Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of managing our volunteer workforce and has functional responsibility for our Receptions.
This role includes all aspects of volunteer management, working across functions to ensure we maintain a well-resourced, supported and thriving complement of staff and volunteers across operations, proactively ensuring volunteers’ needs are met and addressing issues as they arise.
The reception functions in our Home and Vet Clinic serve as the gateway between us and the local community and with the exception of one staff receptionist, are largely operated by volunteers. The Home and Clinic are busy, bustling places and the post holder will need to provide calm, professional and flexible leadership to staff and volunteers working in these areas.
Staff and volunteers at Mayhew, particularly in Reception, Kennels, Cattery and Clinic have roles that can be physically and emotionally demanding, sometimes interfacing with members of the public and dogs and cats who are in distress and facing heart-breaking situations - yet our work is hugely rewarding; you can view some of our amazing rescue stories here. We offer a caring and supportive team and the chance to make a lasting difference to the lives of dogs and cats who rely on us.

**Generally, you will**:

- Lead all aspects of volunteer management across Mayhew
- Maintain relationships with staff, volunteers, foster carers, adopters, supporters and other colleagues
- Manage the Reception team in an inclusive, enabling and empowering way
- Engage and collaborate with senior staff to ensure effective delivery of our strategic and operational goals
- Be self-driven and resilient, having a polite, calm and caring manner

**To be successful in this role, you need relevant experience in**:

- Recruiting, training, managing and supervising or mentoring a diverse range of volunteers
- Experience of successfully motivating, managing, and developing a high performing team and managing performance
- Experience of effectively managing competing and changeable priorities, a high workload and multiple complex issues and tasks

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: £27,000.00-£32,000.00 per year
