Junior Clinical Fellow in Haematology

The Junior Clinical Fellow post (ST1/2 level) is a substantive post, to work as part of the clinical team covering predominantly inpatient responsibility for malignant haematology in Singleton, with some outpatient clinics across other sites. Contributing to the laboratory film and bone marrow morphology reporting responsibility, referral advice calls, and graduate Entry Medical student/ BMS training sessions will be part of the role in line with the post holders level of haematology experience and expertise.
The requirement is 9-5 Monday to Friday with additional duty hours to cover one night on call in the week (dependent on appropriate haematology experience), (17.00-09.00) and one Saturday and Sunday in 8 (9.00-17.00) ward cover including a ward round on Saturday and Sunday morning for haematology inpatients (Singleton site). There is an expectation that haematology specific procedures may be part of the role, following demonstration of competence. The department is actively involved in the Swansea University Graduate Medical student and Physicians Associate programmes with students present as part of the team for most weeks during the academic year. The post holder will be expected to provide clinical teaching and supervision for these students whilst they are with the team, and in the provision of clinical skills teaching. There is also the opportunity to contribute to delivery of the haematology curriculum for the established Physicians Associate Programme.
Swansea Bay University Health Board has responsibility for the health of around 390,000 people in the Neath Port Talbot and Swansea areas, with a budget of around £1 billion and employing 12,500 people. We are a University Health Board working in partnership with Swansea University, Swansea School of Medicine, the School of Health Science and the Institute of Life Science. The HB has three major hospitals providing a range of services: Morriston and Singleton hospitals in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot hospital in Baglan, Port Talbot.
The Health Board is part of A Regional Collaboration for Health (ARCH), which is a partnership with Hywel Dda UHB and Swansea University. Aimed at improving the wellbeing and wealth of South West Wales.
Swansea is Wales' second-largest city, and sits on the five-mile sweep of Swansea Bay. An ideal base for exploring South-West Wales, there is also much on offer for visitors in Swansea itself. Swansea has a range of shops, cozy cafes, great restaurants, art galleries as well as being able to offer good outdoor lifestyle with its beautiful coastline and beaches on the Gower Peninsula. Swansea also has excellent sporting facilities including the Wales National pool and liberty stadium home to the Ospreys and Swansea City football club.

You will be expected to deputise for absent colleagues and in exceptional, unforeseen circumstances may have to perform additional duties to ensure the safe running of the department. Where such duties take place outside your normal contracted duties, you will receive either an equivalent off duty period or will be remunerated appropriately.
