**Post Title: Pastoral Support Assistant**

**Working Time**: **32 hours per week 8.15 am
- 3.15pm (39 weeks - to include INSET DAYS)**

**Grade: NJC 3 pt 5-9**

**Disclosure Level: DBS Enhanced**

**Line Manager: Deputy Headteacher (SENDCo)**

The post holder is required to support and encourage the school’s Christian ethos and its objectives, policies and procedures as detailed in the current Staff Handbook and Policy File. This also includes commitment to the life of the school and policies integral to the School.

**Main purpose**

To work with the Deputy Head Teacher SENCo, Designated Safeguarding Leads and teachers as part of a professional team, supporting the emotional wellbeing and learning of pupils who need particular help in overcoming barriers to learning.

**Duties and responsibilities**
- Support the Attendance Officer to monitor attendance (first day response calls and input on to Arbor) and implement policies and procedures to improve attendance.
- Act as a point of contact for pupils requiring support.
- Support students struggling with transition and friendship issues.
- To support children during non-contact times, supporting them with play, friendships/ social interactions and try to resolve any issues.
- To attend any meetings or training as and when required
- To support at information evenings and school events
- Keep up to date with possible sources of support for children and young people via networking and CPD.
- Liaise with the Deputy Headteacher regarding possible MH referrals
- To maintain confidential pupil case records
- To supervise uncollected children at the end of the day, and make relevant calls to parents
- To maintain and display up to date pastoral information board
- To administer first aid to students
- To accompany members of the safeguarding team on home visits as required

**Working with colleagues and other relevant professionals**
- Communicate effectively with other staff members and pupils, and with parents and carers under the direction of the deputy headteacher and senior pastoral team
- Develop effective professional relationships with colleagues

Whole-school organisation, strategy and development
- Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of the school’s policies, practices and procedures, so as to support the school’s values and vision
- Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school

**Health and safety**
- Promote the safety and wellbeing of pupils, and help to safeguard pupils’ well-being by following the requirements of Keeping Children Safe in Education and our school’s child protection policy
- Look after children who are upset or have had accidents
- Attend to pupils’ personal needs including social, welfare and health matters
- Be willing to be first aid trained and used to assist staff to deal with medical conditions or first aid for students

**Professional development**
- Help keep their own knowledge and understanding relevant and up-to-date by reflecting on their own practice, liaising with school leaders, and identifying relevant professional development to improve personal effectiveness
- Take opportunities to build the appropriate skills, qualifications, and/or experience needed for the role, with support from the school
- Take part in the school’s appraisal procedures
