DIABETES (up to 10PAs) at BRISTOL ROYAL HOSPITAL FOR CHILDREN

This is a replacement post for a confirmed substantive post following a retirement and an exciting opportunity to join the existing Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes team at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children (BRHC), UHBW. We are a recognised Centre of Excellence previously with two European Reference Networks as a specialised centre for both Rare Endocrine and Rare Bone disease. We have recently been commissioned as the south west region CEW (Complications of Excess Weight) hub site by NHSE and is also one of the four nationally commissioned, NHS England funded complex Osteogenesis Imperfecta service. The endocrine and diabetes team based at the BRHC consists of 5.0 NHS endocrine and diabetes consultants, one University of Bristol clinical academic for diabetes and Obesity and 2 Consultant Paediatricians with an interest in diabetes, 4 WTE paediatric endocrinology/late-effect nurse specialists and 7.5 E WTE PDSN, 3 WTE dietitians and 2.5 WTE Clinical Psychologists. The new post will join the specialist endocrinology services and large diabetes team and join the specialist Endocrine Bone service or another sub-speciality team.

The team provides a tertiary service in Paediatric Endocrinology to the whole of the Southwest of England and parts of Wiltshire with a referral population of approximately 1 million children; and provides diabetes care to Bristol, Weston and North Somerset.

The 10 PA job plan includes sharing responsibility for Bristol and SW regional endocrinology, with ward attending in paediatric endocrinology (1:5) and diabetes (1:7) (consultant responsibility for ward rounds, in-patient referrals and regional queries during working hours Mon-Fri) and consultant responsibility for day case investigations. There is currently no formal on call commitment but this is currently under review and will be developed to meet national specialist clinical standards.

**Out-patient responsibilities will include**: 2-3 diabetes clinic/month, regular Bristol Endocrine and Endocrine Bone and COI clinics plus attendance at DSD and transition clinics as required and attendance at regional endocrinology clinics for specified centres.

Applicants should have a CCT or equivalent in Paediatric Endocrinology, Diabetes SPIN or equivalent or be within six months of achieving this at the date of interview, or be listed on the GMC’s specialist register.
