We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated communications professional to head up a range of communications planning and delivery for the Cumbria Connect, Endangered Landscapes Programme.

**Hours**: Part time, 3 days per week
**Contract**: Fixed term until September 2027

Working with local partners and stakeholders across area you will lead on delivery of a suite of communications outputs including press and PR opportunities, web and social content, newsletters, and more technical project outputs. You will be responsiblefor ensuring cohesive and collaborative communications across the partnership and our funders. This is a three day per week, fixed-term contract until September 2027.

Working on behalf of core project partners - RSPB, United Utilities, Lowther Estates and Natural England, and as part of an ambitious Europe wide suite of ELP funded restoration projects, Cumbria Connect seeks to inspire a co-developed vision of a restored33,000ha English upland landscape. The project seeks to support widescale land-management change and nature recovery through a collaborative working model that seeks to bring differing land management interests together at a time of great change and uncertainty.The project also aims to accelerate the restoration of natural processes on existing core nature sites including Wild Haweswater and Lowther Estate within the project area through an expansion of naturalistic grazing, direct intervention, natural regeneration,species reintroduction, peatland restoration and reestablishment of dynamic river systems. Around the core sites we aim to work with a diverse range of private farmers and land managers to support and incentivise nature friendly farming techniques that willbenefit nature, farm businesses and the local community.

To support this critical work, we are seeking an experienced communications manager to oversee planning and delivery of communications outputs for the programme. You will also seek out opportunities for new and innovative ways to communicate about CumbriaConnect to a range of audiences through a mix of media

To succeed in this exciting role, you will need a successful track record in communications and working in partnership for a range of audiences. You will be a well organised individual able to deliver projects to time and on budget. You will be self-motivatedand capable of working on your own and alongside local teams and partners with excellent verbal and written communication skills. You will feel passionately about nature recovery and connecting people to the landscape. You would be joining a friendly and dynamiccommunity of partners, committed to creating a better future for nature and the rural economy in Cumbria.

**Key aspects of the role**:
You will lead on planning and delivery of communications of the Cumbria Connect programme. You'll work closely with partners and our funders to deliver high quality communications outputs to achieve buy in to the aims of Cumbria Connect. Through your communicationsyou will foster support for nature recovery in the local community and further afield
- Working with partners, you will lead on the cocreation of a communications plan for Cumbria Connect
- Establishment of brand of Cumbria Connect that represents the views of the core partners
- Lead on the delivery of the communications plan and manage all outputs such as press, PR opportunities, web and social content, newsletters, and more technical project outputs of the programme
- Producing a suite of communications products such as press releases, articles, media interviews and web and social content
- Building a network of media contacts within the partnership and in external organisations
- Acting as a spokesperson for Cumbria Connect alongside training and support for others in the programme and partnership in this area

**Essential skills, knowledge, and experience**:

- Evidence of a high level of literacy and of a good general education
- An understanding of how to achieve objectives through media campaigning and PR techniques including managing reputational risk
- Able to lead people and processes to agreed outcomes
- Able to communicate in a clear manner at all levels and in writing and verbally to develop shared understanding
- Able to summarise complex information and provide impactful copy
- Being able to persuade others and negotiate to reach agreement
- Leading teams and projects
- Demonstrable experience of developing stories and messages from briefings or background information on a wide variety of topics
- Working in or with the media to sell and tell stories
- Able to write to tight deadlines
- Multitasking
- Experience of media interviews in various formats
- Working in partnership

**Desirable skills, knowledge, and experience**:

- PR/marketing/journalism qualification
- Working across a widely distributed organisation and across functional disciplines
- Working for/with environmental NGO or voluntary sector organisation
- UK nature conservation/wildlife or land management
- Key habitats and conservation issues in the project area
