We are looking for a self motivated, enthusiastic applicant with a professional approach to join our small & friendly team.

You will work as part of a team under the supervision of the Team Leader/Senior Clinic Clerk providing clerical and reception support in the out-patient department at Arrowe Park Hospital and St Catherines Health Centre, sending out appointments to patients and maintaining appropriate records.

Although English and Maths at level 2 is not required for the role, it is a requirement to complete the apprenticeship and need to be in place by the end of the apprenticeship. If you do not hold or cannot evidence English and Maths at level 2 then support will be provided for the successful applicant(s) as part of the Trust’s apprenticeship offer.

Whilst this role is being advertised as a permanent position, there is an expectation that the successful applicant must complete all elements of the apprenticeship. Initially, the successful applicant will be placed on a fixed term apprenticeship contract for the duration of the programme. Upon completion of the apprenticeship and providing all additional milestones are met, the successful applicant will be issued a permanent contract.

Annual leave starts at 27 days a year plus bank holidays
- Receive and acknowledge incoming referral letters if appropriate.
- Refer letters to Consultant/clinician for advice.
- Book and advise patients of appointments using partial/fully booking protocols.
- Ensure clinics booked to full capacity as per the agreed Consultant/clinician’s template. Make suggestions as to any modification to ensure smooth running of clinic based on demand.
- Ensure that all outpatient targets are met.
- Registering urgent patients if have appropriate Cerner access.
- Deleting of clinics due to Annual/Study leave etc, as per agreement with Consultant/clinician.
- Re-booking patients who have had to be cancelled due for example to sickness of clinician
- Complete administrative details for each patient on out-patient status record.
- Check if results received if appropriate to clinic and chase results if not available. This may necessitate reading clinician’s last letter to see which tests ordered, eg; bloods/X-ray/ECG/MRI/Histology/Microbiology. These may be from this hospital or other hospitals or units, eg Alder Hey.
- Receive patients in clinic, welcome them, check administrative details are correct and amend computer records to ensure all data is up-to-date and accurate.
- Record details of attendance, treatment and follow-up as designated by clinician on computer.
- Send out letters to non-attendees and their GPs and discharge from computer system as per Patient Access Policy.
- Book further appointments/investigations as per clinician’s instructions.
- Answer telephone enquiries regarding all aspects of clinic activity.
- Deal initially with any face to face or telephone complaints from patients or GPs and refer to advice as approp
