Position Overview
Role: Outpatient Nursing Specialist
Hours: 30 per week
An exceptional opportunity has emerged for a dedicated and proactive individual to join our Outpatient Nursing team at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHSFT.
This role will involve collaborating with the Outpatient Team and the broader multi-disciplinary teams that operate their clinics within the unit.
Strong communication abilities are crucial for success in this position.
Through our comprehensive induction program, eLearning modules, and a supportive mentorship system, we will assist you in acclimating to your new responsibilities while enhancing your knowledge, skills, and competencies. We are committed to your ongoing professional growth, providing access to additional training opportunities such as communication workshops and clinical skill development, supported by our learning and development team and clinical education resources.
Key Responsibilities
As an Outpatient Nursing Specialist, your duties will include:
- Assisting and coordinating the daily operations of outpatient services
- Triage of patients to ensure timely care
- Providing wound care as necessary
- Recognizing and escalating concerns for acutely unwell patients
- Supporting patients awaiting external transfers
- Delivering hands-on nursing care
- Offering emotional support to patients and their families
- Performing phlebotomy procedures
- Managing PICCs and Ports
- Assisting in clinic preparations
- Conducting patient observations
- Carrying out urinalysis
- Recording blood glucose levels
- Performing ECGs
- Maintaining high standards of documentation and record-keeping
In the absence of the manager and deputy manager, the post holder will be responsible for coordinating the team and addressing staff and patient inquiries.
We seek individuals who are committed, motivated, and compassionate to enhance our existing team.
Work schedule: Monday to Friday, with flexibility required.

Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
- Degree or Diploma in Nursing (1st level nursing)
- Evidence of ongoing professional development.
Desirable:
- Degree or in-progress degree.
- Experience as a student nurse assessor.
- Completion of a communication course.
Knowledge Requirements
Essential:
- Prior nursing experience in a hospital environment.
Desirable:
- Able to recognize and respond to deteriorating patients.
