**Job overview**:
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Research & Development Team at Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust and play a pivotal role in the delivery of new, potentially life changing, treatments to our patients. We facilitate both commercial and non-commercial research studies over a wide range of specialties, including cancer, diabetes, cardiology, rheumatology, paediatrics, gastroenterology, respiratory medicine, critical care, obstetrics and gynaecology and surgery.

The post holder will be expected to participate fully in their personal development and review processes in order to achieve the knowledge and skills identified in the outline for this post making use of all resources available to them and utilising any appropriate development frameworks.

**Main duties of the job**:

- To understand and follow pre-determined written protocols for conducting clinical research projects
- Have an understanding of Research Governance (ICH/GCP, Declaration of Helsinki) and how standards can be maintained
- Undertake procedures for clinical trials and be proficient in the use of any equipment involved. For example: venepuncture, centrifuging, dispatching blood and urine samples, and the use of blood and ketone meters
- Work closely with the Research Team in supporting, promoting and organising patient recruitment and co-ordinate the research delivery
- Screen hospital notes alongside specific research protocols to identify potentially eligible patients
- Collect data from medical records and accurately add relevant data to case record form as required
- Act as a point of contact for sponsors and to maintain good relationships with the Principle Investigator and Senior Research Nurse keeping them informed of the progress of the studies.
- Attend project meetings as required
- To be effective at time management, working independently and adjusting priorities to meet the changing needs of the studies.
- To undertake other duties deemed necessary and appropriate to the successful running of clinical trials and provision of patient care
- To maintain the skills required to undertake the role of research assistant and undertake the necessary training and periodic re-training as required
- Assist in archiving study documentatio and ensure tracking procedures are in place
