Job overview
To work as an effective member of the specimen reception team to ensure staff are supported, and proactively encouraged in acquiring the skills and competencies to undertake their roles and support the laboratory services
To assist in conjunction with the specimen reception team and specimen reception training lead, in providing assurance that staff are trained, competent and safe to carry out their roles
To be a positive role model to staff.
The role will require working at both QMC and City Campus.

Working for our organisation
Specimen reception is the first point of contact for samples arriving into the clinical pathology laboratory. It is the key to getting accurate results out in a timely manner to service users within the hospital and across Nottingham.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To participate in delivering in house training activities in order to help meet the current and future needs and objectives
To actively support and lead the induction, support in service of new MLA staff in conjunction with the specimen reception team
To maintain records of staff training, meetings and competencies
To assist staff returning to work to regain / refresh competencies and co-ordinate any applicable training
To assist in enabling and supporting MLA staff who are being managed through both formal and informal capability action plans
To assist in the recruitment of apprentices supporting facilitating placements and providing mentoring / guidance to apprentices
Support the development of training programmes for MLAs
Review individual MLA competencies and training - escalating any concerns around performance training and skill acquisition to specimen reception management
To facilitate compliance with Mandatory Training and local training for specimen reception staff
To contribute to training needs analyses for specimen reception
To provide support for staff in the use of IT software packages where the support required relates to the development of skills
To provide an advisory function to specimen reception staff on issues relating to learning and development opportunities, where appropriate signposting staff to the most effective source of information
To maintain knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and procedures to help ensure equality of access to training, development and education opportunities
To review the effectiveness of training in conjunction with the Clinical Pathology Quality team

Training & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Working knowledge of Microsoft software, shown within work history
- HNC or other diploma or equivalent level of knowledge at level 4 NVQ or equivalent
Experience

- Experience of delivering training to individuals and/or groups
- Ability to plan and organise training. examples of involvement with training
- Experience of working in healthcare setting
Desirable criteria
- Experience delivering pre-written mandatory or policy training materials

- Evidence of prioritisation and organisation of own workload
