**Apprenticeship context**

The Infrastructure and Facilities team within the College of Medical and Dental Sciences consists of over 70 professional technical staff who work together to support the effective and sustainable management of the College estate. It also ensures that the operation and maintenance of the facilities support the student experience, academic, research and administrative functions of the College while balancing financial and technical constraints with health and safety and aesthetic concerns.

The Apprentice Administrative Assistant will learn to provide underpinning administrative support within the Infrastructure and Facilities office. Reporting to the Office Manager the Apprentice Administrative Assistant will learn to provide support on all aspects of office administration using relevant systems and processes.

The office is a busy environment and an ability to cope with a busy workload is essential and requires the apprentice to use a significant amount of initiative and develop time management and personal responsibility skills. The post-holder will be expected to learn to exercise judgement, be proactive and have the necessary confidence to interact appropriately with a wide range of people, both internally and externally, and at all levels. Flexibility is essential, as is an ability to take on a wide range of responsibilities with support, to work to tight deadlines and think creatively. Good communication skills, both written and verbal and an ability to use IT effectively are also key skills.

**Apprenticeship summary**

The apprentice will learn to provide administrative support in the relevant department, working as part of a team or on own initiative. In order to flexibly use resources, you may be given the opportunity to work in different areas of the department or wider University.
