Play Assistant for Children with Special

Are you aged 17 or over and have direct experience of supporting a child and/or young person with additional needs?
- Are you looking for work in the school holidays and/or Saturdays? Our Breakaway Playscheme is recruiting for Playscheme Assistants to work at our busy holiday playschemes and we would love to hear from you
Breakaway provides fun activities and a safe space for children with a wide range of SEND needs between the ages of 5 - 19 during the holidays and on Saturdays. You would be required to support the children in play and, where needed, cater for their personal care needs. Hours of work are typically 09:00 - 16:00 on Saturdays and the School Holidays. We run at two sites in Stevenage and also fortnightly on Saturdays in Letchworth Garden City.
**Key Duties**
Ø To always act in a responsible manner towards the young people
Ø To assist the play leader with activities/events suitable for young people (aged between 5-19yrs) with learning/physical difficulties
Ø To assist in the supervision/inclusion of the young people on outings/trips
Ø To assist in the supervision/inclusion of the young people when entertainment/activities are provided at Playscheme
Ø To complete/assist in completing any written records - such as the Playbook. Play Assistants may also be required to give verbal reports to parents/carers
Ø To assist in the feeding and changing of a child/young person as required.
Ø To help organise and supervise any volunteer helpers to ensure that they and the young people interact successfully, and gain the maximum enjoyment and benefits from Playscheme
Ø To be responsible, with other team members, for ensuring that the play materials and equipment are properly used, maintained, and stored and for reporting any worn or damaged items to the Play Leader.
Ø To keep up to date with relevant training as and when required
Ø To help ensure the areas used by Playscheme are left tidy and clean, including abiding by covid safety measures.
Ø To have read/understand and implement the Playscheme Policies and Procedures
Ø To record or supervise the recording of any accidents/incidents in the accident/incident book
Ø To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Playscheme Manager or CVS Director
Ø To undertake all required training for the role (safeguarding, GDPR etc which we will provide)
**Job Types**: Temporary contract, Zero hours contract
