The Hospital Ambulance Liaison Officer/Clinical Navigator role is a dedicated people and process focused resource, with an overarching objective to lead the efficient delivery of hospital ambulance turnaround, encompassing improvement in operational practices materially driving excellence in patient care and ambulance service delivery. In parallel, the role will be an integral health system conduit for real time, multi-agency intelligence sharing, supporting Trust and partner agency tactical and strategic decision making.

Base station will be Lincoln County Hospital. Shifts will be 1200/0000 working from within the A/E department.

The Clinical Navigator role is a dedicated people and process focused resource, with an overarching objective to lead the efficient delivery of hospital ambulance turnaround, encompassing improvement in operational practices materially driving excellence in patient care and ambulance service delivery. The CN resource is a clinically qualified Paramedic/Nurse. They will take the lead ambulance coordinating role to oversee the clinical handover process while also redirecting, signposting and educating correct patient destinations - for both in and out of hospital pathways. The post holder has the authority to effectively and assertively challenge process and behaviours of both ambulance and Emergency Department staff within the context of patient care and clinical handover. This includes ensuring the department is the appropriate destination for the patient based on their presenting condition and optimum utilisation of wider health system pathways. This may include diverting patients to more appropriate pathways due to clinical appropriateness and reflecting system pressures.

The post holder will be required to operate at the designated Hospital to ensure effective and efficient ambulance turnaround to support the EMAS achievement of key performance indicators as part of the EMAS strategic and clinical objectives. Additionally, they will have a key responsibility in ensuring appropriate prioritisation of ambulance staff and patient welfare, whilst ensuring the adoption of the Professional Care Standards for Patients Waiting in Ambulances (NHSEI 2021) during periods of prolonged handover.
