More detail about the role The Upper GI service is very busy with a high throughput, including complex and acutely ill patients as well as routine elective and emergency Upper GI and General surgery. The Unit specialises in complex benign Upper GI surgery, including laparoscopic procedures for anti-reflux surgery, para-oesophageal hernia, oesophageal motility disorders, hot gallbladder, choledocholithiasis, splenic diseases, benign pancreatic and liver conditions. The Unit has also advanced expertise in the management of acute pancreatitis.
