An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Trauma and Orthopaedic Department at Southmead Hospital to support a busy team in the elective recovery following the Covid -19 Pandemic.

The T&O Admin Patient Pathway Navigator is the first point of contact for patients and their carers on the Trauma and Orthopaedic inpatient and day case waiting lists. The role will enable and empower patients to manage their own health needs while they wait for their surgery. The role will also advise patients of their waiting times and offer local help and support to keep them active while they wait.

**The role will also include**:

- Responsibility for overseeing and providing a comprehensive administrative service to the members of the Trauma and Orthopaedic Team, ensuring that all aspects of the patient pathway, from referral to treatment and follow up care, is delivered to a high quality patient care standard and within RTT patients access guidelines.
- Working closely with the Performance and Operation Manager and the Support Managers in the delivery of the Inpatient and Outpatient Service across Trauma and Orthopaedics, to support the RTT waiting times and reduce 52, 78 and 104 week breaches through the resolution of staffing, capacity an patient choice issues.
- Ensuring efficient and effective co-ordination of outpatient appointments, diagnostics and inpatient admissions.
- Play a central navigation role within the Trauma and Orthopaedic service and to work in close liaison with patients, carers, colleagues, clinical teams, staff in other departments, GPs and community care.
- Ensure good data quality, including checking patients out on the Lorenzo PAS (Patient Administration System) to ensure appropriate income generation; to ensure accurate RTT and income data.

The Avon Orthopaedic Centre (AOC) located in the Brunel Building is the largest specialist Elective Orthopaedic Centre in the Southwest, 4th largest nationally, the Major Trauma provider for the Severn region, and regional tertiary referral centre for complex spinal surgery. The Trauma Team work closely with the regional plastic surgery and regional vascular teams in the management of major trauma, and in addition have excellent outcomes with ambulatory and elderly trauma including hip fractures.

The elective Orthopaedic service is provided by a team of 39 North Bristol Trust and University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust Consultants, as part of a Bristol wide

The role requires good customer care skills, empathy, understanding, patience, good problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritise workload.

This is a fixed position for approx. 8 months with the position ending at the end of March 2023.
