Manage the designated department on a day-to-day basis in conjunction with appropriate radiologists and support staff. To liaise with all disciplines of staff, other departments/wards within the hospital and external bodies in order to provide a quality service to patients and clinicians. To monitor the quality of service provision through audit. Ensure that mechanisms for effective communication with all staff are in place.

Ensure appropriate documentation of operational procedures & maintenance of other departmental records. Respond to complaints, investigate circumstances and implement changes as necessary in consultation with the Principal Superintendent. To report incidents in line with Trust risk management policy, including investigation and remedial action. To act as operator and (if necessary) as referrer under IR(ME)R assessing requests and deciding on appropriate imaging techniques.

To offer specialist advice to users of the designated department. To collaborate with the Principal Superintendent and appropriate Radiologists in the planning & evaluation of imaging protocols for patient examinations. To collaborate with radiologists in clinical decisions relating to the choice, execution and reporting of examinations. To supervise safe work practices of NHS staff and students.

To facilitate undergraduate and postgraduate training and education in the department. To participate in the delivery of education programmes for staff delivering lectures, tutorials and workshops and facilitate the development of radiographer extended role initiatives. To actively undertake and maintain personal CPD, professional training, education and contribute to departmental appraisal programme. To demonstrate active commitment to the development of staff, assist with their practical training and education and support their development needs.

To facilitate pastoral support for new staff. To participate in the planning and implementation of clinical research projects involving radiology. To actively participate in the technical and patient focused aspects of the departments Audit programme. To actively contribute to presentations and publications of clinical research.

Manage radiographic, clerical and support staff within the delegated department - ensuring appropriate delegation & supervision of tasks. Through appraisal and KSF monitoring identify & address staff training needs making sure that they are relevant to personal & departmental/service needs. Deploy resources effectively and efficiently to provide a high quality service to the patient through consultation with the Principal Superintendent. Monitors or contributes to the drawing up of department/service budgets or financial initiatives Authorised signatory for cash/financial payments.

Maximise efficient and effective use of resources using agreed measures and appropriate tools and techniques e.g. capacity & demand analysis. Participate in equipment procurement as necessary within identified constraints. To ensure compliance with the Trusts standing financial instructions.

Ensure the accuracy and integrity of operational data entered into information systems Ensure that the dept meets the required standards for confidentiality & data protection policies. Participate in the continuing development of information systems within Radiology. Implement & monitor a QA programme for equipment and techniques. Contribute to the asset register & the equipment replacement programme for the CMT.

To continue professional development, attending clinical and scientific meetings and studying professional literature. To engage in evidence based practice to improve service delivery. The post holder may be required to perform other duties not listed in this job description commensurate with the level of responsibility of the post. Health and Safety/Risk Management All staff are responsible for working with their colleagues to maintain and improve the quality of services provided to our patients and other service users.

This includes complying at all times with the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Policies, including Health and Safety policies, in particular by following agreed safe working procedures, and reporting incidents using the Trust Incident Reporting system. To maintain safe working practices and ensure the health and safety policies of the hospital are implemented and ensure all work activities comply. To ensure staff attend mandatory training sessions as required within the designated department, including regular updates in Fire, Moving & Handling and CPR, and ensure accurate records of training are maintained. To be responsible for departmental risk management, risk assessment and the dissemination of information to the departmental team Where relevant to act as departmental safety supervisor e.g.

radiation protection or MRI supervisor. To take departmental responsibility for the Trust Incident Reporting system Be responsible for the monitoring & assessment
