- UKCEH is looking for an experienced UX Design Researcher to join our 600-strong team, contributing to scientific discovery and generating the data, insights and solutions that researchers, businesses and governments need to solve complex environmental challenges.

- And much more.You’ll be joining our Environmental Data Science group, to create interactive, inclusive, and novel designs for stakeholder services within our digital research infrastructure. Digital research infrastructure at UKCEH supports the full lifecycle of environmental science projects, from monitoring and processing data to analysing and visualising data for decision-making under uncertainty.

You will be using UX design principles, approaches and research activities to create tailorable designs and prototypes for these varying services whilst simultaneously providing a cohesive appearance for stakeholder services in the digital research infrastructure. You will create interactive, inclusive, and novel designs that meet stakeholder needs and explore opportunities to showcase environmental science in new ways.

You will also be working closely with the rest of the Environmental Data Science group, an expanding multidisciplinary team that draws on co-design approaches to develop the digital research infrastructure for environmental science.

Your main responsibilities will include:
- Evaluating and reiterating the current UX design of existing stakeholder services in UKCEH's digital research infrastructure to create novel service designs and prototypes-
- Utilising current and emerging best practices in UX design, including quantitative and/or qualitative research methods where appropriate-
- Taking responsibility for the UX research and design activities with stakeholders to understand their needs, working closely with the co-design and development team to transform designs into operational services-
- Exploring interactive, inclusive, and novel designs for stakeholder services, such as using emerging technologies (e.g., virtual reality) to showcase environmental science in new ways that enhance engagement-
- Aligning designs with the work in the UKCEH communications team, supporting a cohesive appearance to UKCEH stakeholder services-
- Presenting and disseminating UX design research with the wider community, including with the Human-Computer Interaction research community through high quality publications as well as with the public through impactful engagement events-
- Identifying opportunities for collaboration with the wider community on UX design research for digital research infrastructure, including supporting research bids where appropriateFor the role of UX Design Researcher, we’re looking for somebody who:
- Has evidence of continuing professional development and up to date knowledge of research in their field, including best practices in UX design-
- Has experience of using quantitative and/or qualitative research methods for understanding stakeholder needs specific to UX-
- Can transform stakeholder needs into effective and inclusive UX designs, communicating these with development teams for operation-
- Works with mínimal supervision, keeping managers appraised as appropriate-
- Leads and engages others within their field and takes ideas forward-
- Applies appropriate project management methods and has strong project management skills for projects with stakeholder engagement-
- Can present work clearly and expertly to a variety of audiences including non-specialists, and actively pursues opportunities to collaborate with others-
