Full job description/ person specification is attached. To deliver and participate, in the clinical care of Neonates within the clinical area. Under supervision, provide a level of advanced and comprehensive health assessment based on a specialist body of knowledge. To appropriately assess, examine, investigate, diagnose and treat patients, resulting in safe management and appropriate clinical management, referral or discharge of neonates within the specified boundaries of the role as a trainee.

Under supervision, using an extended scope of practice beyond own profession, review all information available, including interpretation of laboratory and radiological results. Utilising a systematic process of assessment and critical reasoning make a differential diagnosis, and record and initiate an appropriate patient management plan prioritising the most probable diagnosis. Recognise Neonates with changing health status and take appropriate actions. Initiate pharmacological intervention, as an independent or supplementary prescriber or patient group directive and administer medications as prescribed by others in accordance with current legislation and the Mid Yorkshire Trust policies.

Communicate highly complex and highly sensitive information with patients and families and within the healthcare team. Plan and organise complex activities for Neonates, including liaison with other hospital services and external agencies, and detailed planning for patient management, referral and discharge. Have responsibility for the safe use of highly complex neonatal monitoring and support equipment within the work area. Undertake advanced clinical skills according to agreed protocols and to service need.

Maintain own clinical development by keeping abreast of new treatments and technologies within Neonatal care. Rigorously review all aspects of the Neonates plan of care and identify and address issues that may result in a sub-standard service. Contribute to the review and development of integrated care pathways and clinical guidelines to ensure a standardised approach to care. Practice with confidence and competence within Professional Guidelines.

Ensure that accurate documentation and records of Neonatal care are maintained in line with professional standards. Assist and contribute to the development of Neonatal management systems, processes and tools within the work area and adjacent clinical areas. Improve the quality of the Neonatal experience by identifying and meeting the individual clinical needs of the Neonate and their families. Provide support to the multidisciplinary team to enable Neonates to have better outcomes for their health and that of their families, undertaking health promotion and contributing to the prevention of adverse effects to health and wellbeing.

Demonstrate ability to adapt specialist clinical knowledge and skills to different clinical settings, and influence service delivery and Neonatal care. Actively implement effective systems and processes for infection control management and relevant audit within their clinical placement area. The ANCP complies with legislation, policies and procedures related to biomedical investigations and interventions. The trainee takes appropriate action to comply with response to biomedical reporting and escalation of extraneous results.
