Head of Strategic Planning and Projects

Oxford, United Kingdom University of Oxford Full time

**Grade 10: £58,284 - £67,541 with a discretionary range to £73,787 p.a.**

The Social Sciences divisional office seeks to appoint a dynamic Head of Strategic Planning and Projects who will be a core member of its senior leadership team. Reporting to the Divisional Registrar, you will work collaboratively with the academic Head of Division and professional services colleagues across a range of functions to develop and deliver the divisional office’s annual and strategic work plans.

You will play a key role in helping the Social Sciences Division to sustain its world-leading academic performance and navigate the rapidly evolving context in which it operates institutionally and within the sector.

Your portfolio will include responsibility for divisional planning; specific strategy areas including estates and IT; divisional governance in liaison with the Divisional Registrar; and leadership of agreed strategic projects and business change activities. You will be supported by two planning and project managers and will also oversee and line manage the heads of a number of different divisional services. The cross-cutting nature of your responsibilities means you will be well-placed to support the Divisional Registrar across the span of Social Sciences activity and you may on occasion be required to deputise.

You will need to develop excellent links with and understanding of the diverse academic departments within the division. You will also forge effective working relationships with the University’s central administration; colleagues in other divisional offices; and, in relation to Estates work, external professional advisors. You will also need to be adept at digesting University committee papers and other material and producing focused briefs on the implications for Social Sciences and be confident representing the division on University bodies and working groups as required.

You will have strong intellectual and analytical ability, evidenced either by a degree or by your professional experience. You will have a track record of people management and of operating at senior level in a university or comparable institution where you can point to your successful contributions to strategic planning and policy. Comfortable handling a complex and varied portfolio, you will also be a confident communicator, an agile problem solver, and an adept negotiator who can think on your feet and perform under pressure. You will also bring experience of getting the best out of committees through your expert servicing.

This post is full-time and permanent.

**midday on Thursday 16 March 2023**.

It is anticipated that interviews will be held at the end of March / early April.
