Job description

King’s College London communicates with a global audience daily. Our web presence is central to presenting our learning offer to prospective students, showcasing our world class research and service offer, and telling the King’s story to the world. Our intranet/digital employee experience are equally critical in enabling our staff to understand and engage in life at King’s so they can easily navigate the university. An exercise is currently underway to define and develop a new Digital Workplace for our staff community.

This post will be offered on an indefinite contract.

This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent.

Key responsibilities

Content Strategy & Governance (Website)

Act as Editor-In-Chief for website content

Develop and execute a comprehensive website content strategy, roadmap policy and guidance aligned with King’s strategic objectives including Brand & Marketing and Communications & External Affairs strategies and plans

Ensure the content is accurate, relevant, and aligned with brand guidelines

Oversee website governance to ensure content quality and smooth management

Develop new content governance models as required or ensure content governance is firmly embedded within existing models to ensure website content is rigorously planned and executed.

Work in partnership with relevant stakeholders and teams across Communications & External Affairs; Brand and Marketing, IT and wider King’s to ensure website meets King’s strategic objectives and audience needs

Work with product team to ensuring UX, architecture and search are optimal at all times in order to surface content

Ensure content meets compliance requirements using relevant analytical tools such as Siteimprove; WCAG 2.0 guidelines

Lead and develop a team of content producers and support wider community of locally based content editors to achieve the above

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define website requirements and objectives for their respective initiatives, faculties and departments

Conduct regular performance reviews of direct reports team and provide constructive feedback on content management to the wider content community.

Work with product team/s to address website issues promptly to ensure quality assurance.

Ensure the implementation of search engine optimisation (SEO) to improve search engine rankings and drive traffic.

Develop digital storytelling capability within team and wider community where relevant

Collaborate with members of the wider Brand & Marketing team to ensure digital marketing campaigns are fully optimised (website)

Monitor and analyse platform analytics to measure the effectiveness of marketing and communications initiatives.

Intranet/digital workplace development

Act as strategic lead/product manager for intranet/digital workplace development from inception to delivery as project and engagement are underway

Line manage dedicated resource to develop this programme of activity

Digital leadership and innovation

Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to improve the user experience (e.g.AI development)

Work with internal partners to evaluate new technologies, practices, frameworks, and tools that would enhance content sharing and storytelling.

Manage team and product budget/s where relevant

Promote a ‘One King’s’ community of digital content practice at King’s.

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria

**Qualifications**:

- Professionally qualified with a journalism/communications or similar degree/postgraduate qualification, plus relevant digital leadership experience, OR Extensive vocational experience and professional development and achievement in digital leadership/website management/digital content development

Knowledge, Experience & Skills
- Background in journalism, publishing, or editorial role
- Proven experience in a senior web/digital leadership role
- Proven experience of web/digital governance
- Skilled in digital storytelling
- Familiarity of web development practices and tools, e.g., content management systems, SEO and analytics tools (e.g., Google analytics; Site Improve)
- Excellent project management and organisational skills
- Strong leadership, stakeholder management and communications skills
- Knowledge of Agile Methodology principles
- Strong commitment to working with a diverse staff and student community.
