Cambridge, United Kingdom University of Cambridge Full time

The School of the Humanities and Social Sciences is looking for an experienced communications professional to join a new team dedicated to growing communications capacity across our faculties and departments.

The School of the Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) comprises 11 departments and faculties at the University, each with varying levels of in-house communications resource and need. In terms of student numbers, SHSS is the largest of the University's six Schools, hosting close to 30% of the total student load of the University and 50% of the University's taught Masters students. The School has over 1,000 staff, with around 300 University Teaching Officers.

As well as supporting activities led centrally by the School, a proportion of the School Communications Coordinator's time will be allocated to specific departments and faculties within the School to develop strategies for and deliver their individual communications requirements, and provide cover and resilience in communications resourcing across the School.

The School Communications Coordinator will work with the School Communications Manager and School Communications Assistant, to provide agile and flexible communications support to our constituent departments and faculties in order to: support consistency in planning and strategy development; raise the profile of our highly interdisciplinary research; increase access and inclusion in the humanities and social sciences; develop a coherent digital presence; and strengthen the sense of belonging across the School community.

The School Communications Coordinator will be involved in communications activities across a range of disciplines in the humanities and social sciences, covering areas of research, practice, teaching and impact. You will be supported by the School Communications Network, which encompasses communications professionals from across our departments and faculties, as well as central University communications communities.

Working with the School Communications Manager and School Communications Assistant, the Communications Coordinator will define key communications objectives for the School and our departments and faculties, and deliver audience-targeted, multi-channel campaigns including:

- Using audience-insight and analytics to determine appropriate digital channels and tactics to promote our interdisciplinary research, impact, and undergraduate and postgraduate study opportunities
- Developing accessible, user-optimised and engaging website content
- Working with the University press office to produce press releases and generate media coverage of our research, impact, teaching and wider engagement activities
- Using social media and multimedia such as video and podcasting to raise the profile of our School and institutions
- Coordinating cross-department campaigns on wider research or teaching themes

Informal enquiries are encouraged and should be directed to:
Closing Date: 14th January 2024

Interview Date: w/c 22nd January 2024

The University has a responsibility to ensure that all employees are eligible to live and work in the UK.
