**Job Purpose**:
To work as an independent non-medical prescriber within Adferiad’s services as required, taking responsibility for the clinical assessment of the patient, establishing a diagnosis and the clinical management required, as well as responsibility for prescribing where necessary and the appropriateness of any prescription issued.
To work alongside the medical Consultant and doctors to offer substitute prescribing regimes to improve health and promote recovery from the effects of Drug and Alcohol use and ensure maximum benefit to patients in terms of timely and efficient access to medications.
**Responsibilities**:
- To assess clinical appropriateness of referrals to ADFERIAD RECOVERY in-patient treatment services.
- To conduct assessments of physical dependency using validated assessment tools, using results to determine safe induction to substitute medical treatments as required.
- To write prescriptions in accordance with ADFERIAD RECOVERY’ substance misuse prescribing protocol, taking full responsibility for the patient as well as for the medicines prescribed.
- Offer health promotion and harm reduction advice and screening alongside other clinical and psychosocial interventions.
- Raising awareness of blood borne viruses, their transmission, treatment and the significance of infection, also coordinating the onward referral for screening and vaccination for those at risk.
- Ensure the appropriate records are made in the patients case notes which identify you as the independent prescriber.
- To ensure that contemporaneous records which are unambiguous and legible are maintained and kept in accordance with Adferiad’s policy and professional codes of conduct.
- Where it is recognised that a patient’s needs are outside your clinical and professional experience, to take responsibility to refer to the medical Consultant, doctors, or other agency.
- Assist with the development of policies and inform development of non-medical prescribing within Adferiad.
- Assist the medical Consultant and doctors on policy, procedural development and patient information relating to non-medical prescribing in designated areas of practice.
- To participate in the auditing and monitoring of prescribing in designated areas of practice.
- In the event of adverse drug reaction, to be accountable for ensuring that the medical Consultant is advised accordingly and that the IR1 and Yellow Card reporting process is followed.
- To attend formal supervision with the medical Consultant and maintain Clinical Practice Development Portfolio in line with NMC guidelines.
- Provide clinical supervision and contribute to annual appraisal for Independent/Supplementary prescribers.

**Qualifications (Desirable in Italics)**:
- Current NMC Registration.
- Independent Nurse Prescriber qualification.
- Evidence of recent CPD.
- _Specialist qualification to degree level._
- _Nurse Practitioner qualification or working towards._
