Estates Services is a diverse department providing a wide range of professional streams to enable world-class science. Working at 7 STFC sites across the UK, our operations include construction of new buildings, maintaining and developing sites inside and out, providing services such as power and lighting, protective security measures and response to incidents.

Our security team are developing an excellent, friendly and supportive professional security network. By adopting practices from the UK Government’s leading security authorities and understanding the needs of our large & complex scientific environment we protect the amazing work at STFC. The Security team consists of a Head of Security, Site Security Managers, Security Officers and Reception staff. The team provides operational security and emergency services including visitor handling, site patrolling, incident response and much more. It also sets the standards for physical security measures and policies, and coordinates our emergency incident response capability.

We interact with everyone on our sites; more widely we work with the UKRI security functions, across Government and security agencies including the National Protective Security Authority and National Cyber Security Centre.

This graduate role will support developing a person in to a security and resilience professional through on-the-job training & experience. We will give exposure to senior staff and committees well beyond most graduate roles in UKRI. There is a very exciting and stimulating range of projects to be involved with including best practice approaches for security. They will lead small and medium size projects such a producing security assessments, delivering an objective in emergency planning, and other operational projects.

**About the role**

Responsibilities will include:

- Reporting to the Head of Physical Security based at Harwell Oxfordshire, with a combination of learning and doing as we move through an exciting period of change and growth using the best UK security methods, joining up physical with cyber security and people.
- Supporting implementation of the STFC Physical Security Strategy, integrating with the Corporate, Estates and UKRI Security & Resilience strategies
- Developing security risk assessments and security measures to comply with the Government Physical Security Standards and using UK Government Security Best practice
- Supporting the ongoing development of Site Emergency Plans, helping build capacity of people and equipment to keep us safe
- Coordination of operational projects such as on site events, installation of new security equipment
- Project management of security installations and contracted work at the appropriate level.
- Attend cross UKRI and Cross-Government security meetings (representing STFC as required)
- Personal and travel security advice for STFC
- Engage in supported Professional Development in conjunction with The Security Institute
- Management training will be offered, familiarisation with Facilities Management and the wider organisation, in line with the STFC graduate training scheme.

**Essential**:

- Achieved, or be on course to achieve, a minimum 2:1 degree in a relevant field of study
- Have the right to live and work in the UK at the time of starting employment
- Knowledge and interest in security and/or risk management theory
- Ability to understand the business context and wider environment affecting security
- Systematic and logical approach to problem solving
- Knowledge of current affairs and common security threats in the media
