Over 18-months you’ll develop key skills; from sales and product marketing to leadership and effective communication - and plenty more in between

We’ll look to you to help lead your store team, connect with people and causes in the local community, and provide a great experience to our customers and members. You’ll also spend a minimum of 6 hours each working week studying towards the Level 3 Retail Team Leader qualification, in partnership with our learning provider.

At Co-op, we care about your learning and development, and you’ll be supported every step of the way by a friendly team of store colleagues and a dedicated personal mentor. This is an amazing opportunity to kick-start your career in Food Retail and, if you’ve got the ambition and drive that we’re looking for, this could be the perfect opportunity for you

What you’ll do
- Provide a hands-on friendly, welcoming, and helpful service to our customers
- Carry-out the appropriate checks (e.g. stock accuracy) to make sure your store is safe, legal, and fully operational
- Develop key skills to kick-start your journey towards becoming a future leader in our stores (e.g. leadership, communication, relationship-building, problem-solving, and project management)
- Help to lead change in-store, collaborating with your team to deliver this successfully
- Work alongside your Store Manager to help them develop and deliver the local community plan

This role would suit people who have
- Achieved or commit to achieving a grade 4 or above in GCSE Maths and English (or equivalents)
- The appropriate residency requirements
- Good communication and relationship-building skills
- Curiosity and a passion for learning
- A genuine care for the needs of our customers and members

Why Co-op?

At Co-op, we do things differently. For over 175 years we’ve been focused on making things fairer for our members and their communities, and as a colleague we promise to take care of you. You’ll get support for your physical, mental, and financial wellbeing, as well as market leading policies to help you through life events from bereavement and pregnancy loss to fertility treatment and menopause. You’ll also get
- Full, paid training and dedicated support for your personal development and career progression
- 30% discount on all Co-op products in-store plus 10% discounts on all other brands (increasing to 20% on payday weekends)
- A pension scheme with up to 10% employer contributions
- Wagestream
- a money management app giving you access to a percentage of your pay as you earn it
- 36 days of holiday (including bank holidays, pro rata for part time colleagues)
- Virtual healthcare services for you and your family, including access to GP appointments, eye care, mental health support, and nutrition and fitness consultations
- 24/7 employee assistance service
- YuLife - an app rewarding you for healthy behaviour with discounts and vouchers for your favourite brands
- Rotas shared three weeks in advance and accessible on your phone
- Cycle-to-work scheme
