**Overview of Responsibilities**:
A unique and first of its kind position, we have an exciting opportunity as a **Head of Fusion Skills**, where you will play a pivotal role in developing and overseeing skills pathways into the fusion industry for apprentices, undergraduates, postgraduates, and experienced hires. You will be critical in the guiding and influencing of the development of a UK wide fusion skills strategy that encompasses the future anticipated demand signal for both the private and public sector.

Working with an extensive range of public and private industry stakeholders, you will plan and deliver initiatives to generate a fusion skills pipeline, based on the four main entry points into the workforce. Negotiating and collaborating with DESNZ, you will seek to obtain additional funding for fusion skills to continue to build the right capabilities within critical areas for UK industry e.g. Robotics, Space, Power Engineering, Nuclear Design and Energy Storage.

**Additional Responsibilities**:

- Build external relationships with businesses, universities, government departments, international partners, and other sources of funding to attract additional investment / funding to support the generation of fusion skills.
- Ensure business sustainability of these training schemes, procuring and partnering with training providers at apprentice, graduate, post-graduate levels, establishing a business model which provides sustainable funding for these sector-wide schemes.
- Working alongside the UKAEA People team, helping to identify the future requirements of the organisation, via the Strategic Workforce Plan (SWP), and establishing a system to map sponsored individuals through the four main entry points to permanent positions.
- Overseeing and advising the Oxfordshire Advanced Skills (OAS) contract and developing the East Midlands Fusion Skills Centre (EMFSC) contract, considering plans for STEP in West Burton and the considerable opportunities through local skills development in the surrounding areas.
- Develop, with university partners, a much-expanded masters-level training programme to considerably enhance the number of graduates joining the fusion sector.

**Essential Requirements**:

- Deep knowledge of future talent schemes to include funding and developing talent through learning opportunities, such as undergraduate placements.
- Experience of managing a business and P&L account to ensure sustainability of business model with turnover approaching £10M.
- Experience of stakeholder management within the public sector primarily as well as private sector, across industry and academia, preferably in the engineering sector.
- Experience of contributing to the development and delivery of skills and talent development strategy.
- Deep understanding of academic routes available for people to progress into research and innovation organisations, including an understanding of barriers to these for minority groups.
