Culham, United Kingdom CCFE Full time

**Overview of Responsibilities**:
UKAEA’s mission is to lead the delivery of sustainable fusion energy and maximise scientific and economic impact. The new Computing Division of UKAEA, formed by combining ‘IT’ and ‘Advanced Computing’, addresses the full range of digital tools and techniques across UKAEA’s activities - including scientific research, simulation, data acquisition and data management, engineering design modelling and data management, business systems and communications capabilities.

The Computational Science & Engineering within the Computing Division performs support, research and development roles within UKAEA. Our remit covers very diverse areas such as cloud computing, high performance and high throughput computing, algorithm development/computer science, engineering and scientific computing, artificial intelligence, machine learning and Exascale technologies, all aimed at assisting researchers to optimise their work, while contributing to the development and evolution of advanced computing infrastructures within the UK and beyond.

We work at the frontiers of engineering and science to ensure that fusion power plants are well understood and well-engineered, that our science directly informs our engineering work and that both have access to the world leading technology and facilities. We also perform our own research into novel computing and storage technologies and advanced algorithmic methods together with leaders from both academia and industry in order to assess them for future use and provide invaluable feedback to enhance future projects.

This is a support role to the Fusion Industry Programme, which funds Universities as well as SMEs in UK to develop and scale up innovative digital technologies around fusion research. These projects require input and support from fusion experts to provide some of the essential starting points of the work.
