Adoption Support Co-ordinator
About the role
What will you be doing?
As a member of the Voluntary Adoption Agency the post holder will contribute to the provision and development of effective post adoption support services and will comply with the departmental procedures, policies and the requirements of legislation as it affects all aspects of adoption.
The main aim of the Agency is to provide stable, secure adoptive families for children who are unable to remain with their family of origin and to support adoptive families & birth families. We work in partnership with others to develop and improve the quality of support offered to adoptive families post placement and to develop the support services offered to the birth parents of children being placed for adoption.
There is an expectation that the post holder will work with colleagues from other agencies in order to facilitate letterbox exchanges for the child, the child’s siblings and the birth parents. The post holder would be expected to work directly with colleagues and birth parents in order to achieve appropriate letterbox exchanges for the child, led by the child’s care plan. This is a varied and rewarding role that requires a confident and positive person who learns quickly.
About you
- Excellent organisational skills, detail oriented, with the ability to work independently to strict deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills and empathy, understanding and some knowledge about adoption and the lifelong impact on families.
- Ability to liaise positively with people from all walks of life with a range of cultural, age, personal and learning needs, including social workers, adoptive families, young adults and birth families.
- Capacity to demonstrate patience, manage others presenting with strong emotions and to have strong values around anti-discriminatory professional behaviour.
