- 022023-66This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the ESRC-funded _Narrow Margins _project, focusing on the criminalisation of trespass in England and Wales, and how this is impacting marginalised groups (including roadside Gypsy-Travellers, homeless squatters, and activists).

Working closely with the Principal Investigator (Sam Burgum), the research assistant will support the project by conducting ethnographic and qualitative fieldwork, analysis, writing up, and dissemination. Clear and frequent communication with the PI, partner organisations, participants and stakeholders will be crucial.

**Main Responsibilities**:

- Collaborating with PI and partners to write up research work for publication and dissemination.
- Make presentations at national or international conferences and events.
- Continually update knowledge and understanding in their field and develop research skills.
- Deal with problems which may affect the achievement of research objectives.
- Plan and conduct ethnographic and qualitative fieldwork ethically and safely.
- Analyse and interpret results of the research.
- Engage in continuous professional development.
- Manage own research and administration activities.
- Work in collaboration with the PI, partners, participants, colleagues and stakeholders.

**Requirements**:

- Possess sufficient knowledge and research experience, including methods.
- Evidence of research activity and published research is desirable.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Able to manage research and administrative activities and to balance competing pressures of research and administrative demands and deadlines
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with partners, colleagues, participants and stakeholders.
- Able to build contacts and participate in internal/external networks to exchange information and collaborate.
- Evidence of engagement in continual professional development.
- Understand equal opportunity issues and how they may impact on areas of research.
- Understanding of health and safety requirements, including risk assessments. Ability to take responsibility for reducing hazards and have regard for health and safety of others.
- Able to undertake duties at different premises, including the university campus and fieldwork sites. Expected to work outside of normal office hours as required.
- Actively participate as a member of the research team, attending and contributing to relevant meetings.
