The Grants Officer will be responsible for overseeing and implementing Whittington Health Charity’s two-year grant-making strategy. The role is critical to ensuring that money donated to the Charity achieves maximum impact for patients, staff and our wider community.

The Grants Officer will be both reactive and proactive in supporting staff to access charitable funds, identifying and building projects that achieve one or more of our key impact goals of:
1. Improving patient outcomes
2. Improving patient experience
3. Improving family experience
4. Increasing the number of patients treated

In addition to overseeing the spending of charitable funds, the Grants Officer has an equally crucial role evaluating the impact of projects and supporting colleagues in the Charity team to communicate that impact to donors in the form of stewardship reports, case studies and periodic publications, such as our annual impact report.

Main tasks and responsibilities
- Be the first point of contact for staff enquiring about accessing charitable funds to deliver projects that enhance experiences for patients, staff and our wider community
- Work with the Head of Charity to identify and deliver projects that will support the Charity to achieve its 2023-2025 grant-making objectives
- Identify, develop and deliver projects, ensuring that they are within the budget(s) identified delivered on time
- Work closely with the Charity Accountant to ensure the delivery of projects, within budget
- Represent the Charity at internal meetings, setting out a clear roadmap to delivering the spending of charitable funds with the input of other teams, working closely with the Finance business partners in order to oversee project delivery and respond to complex questions around access to funds and amount(s) available
- Evaluate the impact of the Charity’s grant-making, assessing impact and return on investment
- Support colleagues in the Charity team to produce stewardship materials, including bespoke stewardship reports, case studies and periodic publications, such as an quarterly newsletters and the Charity’s annual impact report
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation including the Charities Act and GDPR
- To work with the wider Communications Team to share and promote grant-making activities and opportunities
- Provide ad-hoc and scheduled reports, about projects and spending activity
- To take on ad hoc tasks at the discretion of the Head of Charity in order to support the work of the Charity more broadly
- To adhere to best practice and keep abreast of fundraising trends, techniques and market developments by building a network within the NHS charity and wider charity sector

Community and stakeholder engagement
- Lead and undertake stakeholder analysis to ensure key audiences are identified and engaged with appropriately and consistently to ensure identified projects will have appropriate input and support
- Work collaboratively with other functions internally and externally to support engagement through other programmes, avoiding duplication and maximising links and connections with other work

Publications
- Contribute to the Charity’s annual report, impact reports and other publications

Freedom of Information
- To support the response of Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, ensuring the Trust complies with FOI Act legislation
- Ensure compliance with the publication scheme, in line with information governance requirements

Financial responsibility
- Ensure that charitable funds are used effectively and projects are delivered within expenditure limits

Service development and improvement
- The post holder will be expected to maintain a high level of professionalism and stakeholder care at all times

Level of clinical responsibility
- No direct clinical responsibility, but to understand when clinicians need to be consulted or involved in projects

Leadership and staff management responsibility
- Support and advise key Trust staff regarding the handling of charitable funds. This often relates to complex, confidential and sensitive issues regarding individuals or organisations which have donated to the Charity
