**About The Role**:

We are currently looking for an experienced Data Protection Officer (DPO) to come and join Sunbelt Rentals. As DPO you will monitor compliance and data protection practices internally to ensure the business and its functions comply with the applicable requirements under data protection law.

Working closely with internal teams such as: Legal, People Services, Marketing and Information Security. Key Duties will include:

- Serving as the primary point of contact and liaison for the UK’s data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner’s Office, and EEA Data Protection Authorities, where applicable, on all data protection related matters.
- Implementing a data production governance framework for the management of data usage, developing safeguards for data collection, ownership of data mapping and vendor management.
- Review of projects and related initiatives to ensure compliance with local data protection laws, and where necessary, complete and advise on data protection impact assessments.
- Reviewing supplier contracts, including due diligence and Data Processing Agreements, as required to implement projects in partnership with relevant departments, including but not limited to Procurement and Information Security functions.
- Monitoring changes to local data protection law and making recommendations to the business when appropriate.
- Setting standards and reviewing policies and procedures globally that meet the requirements of applicable data protection law in the UK and any localised requirements in countries of operation.
- Collaborating with the Information Security team to raise employee awareness of data protection and security issues. Maintaining records of all data assets, reports and maintaining data security incident management plan.
- Participating in the quarterly Risk Committee meetings, as required.
- Managing and conducting ongoing reviews of Sunbelt Rental’s data protection governance.
- Developing and delivering privacy and data protection training to various business functions.
- Coordinating and conducting data protection audits.

This role offers hybrid working arrangements - with a mix of remote and office (Birchwood Park, Warrington). National travel may also be required.

To succeed in this role you will bring the following skill-set and behaviours:

- Law degree/certificate (Desirable)
- Hold at least one Data Protection and/or Privacy certification such as, CIPP/E, CIPT, ISEB, etc. (Desirable)
- Experience and strong knowledge in UK and/or EU data protection laws.
- Experience within a compliance, legal, audit and/or risk function, with recent experience in privacy compliance.
- Experience in developing policy and compliance training.
- Knowledge of information technology and data management systems.
- Ability to work unsupervised, exercise leadership, and influence change.
- Strong change and project management skills, including the ability to manage time well, prioritise effectively, and handle multiple deadlines.
- Ability to undertake large, long-term projects, develop alternative methods to complete them, and implement solutions.
- Ability to use independent judgment and discretion when making majority of decisions.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with the appropriate discretion.
