Documentation and Customs Specialist

As an important part of the supply chain team, you will be responsible for preparing and maintaining paperwork associated with the trading and shipment of goods. You will liaise with internal and external customers, suppliers, and our customs agents to coordinatethe delivery of goods ensuring that all government and organizational policies are followed. The role will involve a high level of accuracy of documents and timely distribution of these.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Coordinating the import and export activity for sea, air and road shipments
- Generating import/export documentation for import/export worldwide
- Working with our broker to arrange all import/export declarations for consignments outside the UK (time critical)
- Maintain an organized and accessible filing system for audit purposes.
- Work with wider team to ensure MasterData is accurate for documentation related to the shipping of goods.
- Work with the customer service coordinators to resolve documentation issues
- Investigate customer complaints related to documentation
- Monitor the EU import and export general inbox and respond timely
- Look to streamline the bill of lading processes for WRT with the potential to take this global
- Understanding of the escalation process to ensure timely resolution of customer queries
- Build relationships with the global customer service representatives
- Build relationships with local banks and the financial teams
- Lead the customs audits with HMRC and ensure best practice at all times
- Work with global tax team and GTC to ensure compliance
**What you'll need to succeed**:
- Previous experience in a similar role
- An understanding of the variety of import/export processes (Globally)
- Experience preparing documentation packs including documents such as Bills of lading, customs invoices, commercial invoices, insurance certificates.
- Experience with the customs clearance processes within Europe following Brexit but also globally.
- A sound understanding of SAP system (desirable not essential)
- European language skills (desirable not essential)
- Able to demonstrate strong problem solving and decision-making sills
- Able to demonstrate can work with time critical border controls
- Familiar with legal requirements regarding importing and exporting shipments.
The ideal applicant will be organised, have excellent attention to detail and be able to work to deadlines. Someone who can work as a team and individually and who will take ownership of tasks/queries through to resolution. Excellent problem-solving skillsand a willingness to look at processes and work to improve procedures will be key in the ever changing world of import and export compliance.
