**PLAY CO-ORDINATOR JOB DESCRIPTION**

**Play Co-ordinator Role**:
Playwork is the work of creating and maintaining spaces for children to play. The Play Co-ordinator will
plan, organise and lead the lunchtime play of all children. They will be responsible for leading the Play
Team and ensuring that documentation, such as play development plans, audits and risk assessments are
complete and impactful.

**Ensure well-being of pupils**:

- Undertake dynamic risk assessments, using the risk/benefit model.
- Supervise pupils in designated areas of the school (including playground or external spaces) during

the lunchtime break and to ensure their safety, welfare and general conduct through appropriate

- Promote and reinforce pupils’ self-esteem and appropriate behaviour and effort and to guide pupils

to become independent learners, referring behaviour incidents to senior staff as required.

- Identify and report any unauthorised visitors on school premises.
- Complete any relevant documentation required by the school in relation to incidents occurring during

the lunchtime break period and to participate in review/medical meetings, as required.
- Be aware of any special medical conditions, e.g., Haemophilia, diabetes, asthma, and the relevant

precautions and treatments necessary.
- Take any immediate action to attend to sickness or accidents by carrying out minor first aid and

summoning relevant assistance.
- Report any major accidents or bumped heads to the class teacher and record in the First Aid folder.

**Ensure that stimulating play resources are provided for the children and enable their use of them**:

- Take responsibility for the Play Development Plan and ensure it is impactful
- Ensure resources are stored appropriately.
- Check the quality and condition of resources and repair or remove any resources that are not of a

suitable condition
- Discuss resources with the children and use their views to create development plans
- Engage in play assemblies to interact with the children and collect opinions and ideas
- Organise and carry out the replenishment of resources through:

- Securing funding from internal or external sources
- Purchasing resources as required
- Requesting resource donations from parents and other bodies
- Develop, plan, organise and lead outdoor play activities for children aged 4-11
- Use play activities to help children develop socially and emotionally
- Lead positive play at lunchtime
- To create a varied landscape through the provision of loose parts, risk and challenge
