Head of PR and Communications

In partnership with The Institute of Cancer Research, London we are one of the largest comprehensive cancer centres in Europe, seeing and treating over 60,000 NHS and private patients each year.
We’re looking for a high-flying, experienced Head of PR and Communications to join our team. Working alongside the Director of Marketing and Communications you’ll be responsible for the strategic and operational delivery of the Trust, Private Care and Charity PR and Communications strategies, plus the functions of internal communications, events and celebrity stewardship. You will ensure the Trust, Private Care and Charity have an effective external and internal communications strategy that actively supports the delivery of the business area objectives and which maintains and enhances their reputation. You will provide senior leadership on all communications issues to a wide range of stakeholders including Executive Directors, the Chief Executive, Chairman, Board and Governors.
We're looking for someone with a proven track record in communications and PR at a very senior level, with exceptional communication skills and significant experience in a fast paced management role who is used to leading, and working across, multi-disciplinary teams. You should also be personable, energetic and determined.
The Head of PR and communications is a senior member of the Marketing and Communications team with lead responsibility for the strategic and operational delivery of the Trust, Private Care and Charity PR and Communications strategy, plus the functions of Internal Communications, Events and line management of The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity Celebrity Liaison Manager. The post holder will also act as a deputy to the Director of Marketing and Communications.
This is a strategic and highly visible role requiring the communication of highly complex and often sensitive information both within the Trust and to external stakeholders, and relies on strong working relationships with senior colleagues across the Trust and with the CEO/Chairman.

To dynamically manage the PR and Communications team to provide a high quality, full 24-hour press office service that inspires trust both internally and externally and to strategically develop and nurture relationships with national, local and specialist media. This will include managing the following:
The organisation of press briefings for the Trust ensuring all Trust spokespeople are appropriately briefed and trained
The issue of press releases (and other press briefing materials such as lines to take) in conjunction with the Trust’s leadership and clinical staff
Dealing with media enquiries in a prompt and professional manner recommending an appropriate course of action to take, working with colleagues across the Trust and Charity to deliver a timely response
Ensuring that sensitive stories are appropriately managed in order to minimise potential negative impact on the reputation of the hospital and in the local and wider community
Photocalls and filming opportunities
Identifying and exploiting opportunities to project a positive public image
