- Job description- Are you looking for a role where you make a real difference to our natural environment? Do you want to make East Anglia a more sustainable place to live and work? Our Planning Specialists do just that and we would love for you to join our team if you share this passion
The East of England had the highest population growth over the last 10 years. This is putting increased pressure on our unique but vulnerable environment, most notably affecting water availability, water treatment and communities impacted by flooding. As a Planning Specialist you will work with customers and partners across the region to ensure future growth puts the environment at its heart, protecting and enhancing it for future generations.
The role offers opportunities to deepen your professional planning knowledge and develop your project management, innovation and leadership skills.
Your work will also involve:

- seeking opportunities to expand our strategic planning and early engagement service so that we can influence early stages of development;
- leading on the team’s high profile workstreams including major projects and strategic planning matters;
- providing strong technical leadership which inspires and motivates the team and other colleagues;
- working collaboratively and developing strong relationships with customers and stakeholders at all levels, within and outside the organisation;
- leading or participating in internal projects, locally and nationally, to achieve integrated solutions that progress continuous improvement.

At the Environment Agency, responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
The team- The Sustainable Places team is part of a cross cutting department that works in partnership with internal and external stakeholders to deliver EA2025 goals.

We are a positive, friendly and hardworking team who take pride in protecting and enhancing the environment for future generations.

- Knowledge of the UK planning system and relevant legislation, particularly relating to local plans/supporting evidence and development management workstreams
- Dealing with and advising on development issues and/or on complex environmental problems;
- Excellent interpersonal skills to provide strong technical leadership and maintain relationships with customers and stakeholders;
- Demonstrable successful influencing of organisations and individuals;
- Communicating strategic and technical issues to a range of audiences;
- A proven ability to achieve results and proactively identify and solve problems.

A full UK driving licence is essential. If you don't have this, please speak with us prior to applying.
Helpful, but not essential:

- An understanding of the political framework we work within;
- Project management skills to assist your ability to work flexibly and respond to competing demands in a challenging but rewarding workload environment;
- Membership or demonstration of progression towards membership of a relevant professional body.
- Contact and additional information- In East Anglia we want to create a diverse workplace where people are respected, valued and listened to. We’re all different, and by embracing Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) we can become an equal opportunity employer where jointly we all grow and learn together.
It is our ambition to champion diversity through building a workforce as diverse as the communities we serve.
The roles will be based at either our Brampton or Ipswich offices. We will accommodate working from home but you will be required to attend your base location on a regular basis.
For further details then Adam would be very happy to speak with you:

Interviews will be conducted virtually via Teams.
