The Institute of Nuclear Medicine has an international reputation as a centre for excellence in academic and clinical nuclear medicine. We are located in the heart of the UCL/UCL Hospitals campus, where we deliver a fully comprehensive clinical Nuclear Medicine service which now undertakes some 18,000 studies per year to patients referred from UCLH and hospitals throughout the UK. In addition to the extremely varied clinical workload we have an extensive and internationally recognised internal research programme.

Nuclear Medicine Physics are a friendly team who work closely with all staff groups within the department to ensure a safe and effective clinical service is provided. This post will be part of the Nuclear Medicine Physics team and so is suited to someone who works well in a team and would like to gain experience in this area.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**:
Clinical/Scientific/Technical
- Provide routine support to the Nuclear Medicine Physics group to include: - Manage the clearing of radioactive waste from diagnostic Nuclear Medicine procedures and post-surgical sentinel lymph node procedures. Keep accurate records of waste and ensure it is stored or disposed of in compliance with Environment Agency regulations.
- Assist with the clearing and storage of radioactive waste associated with molecular radiotherapy patients from the Nuclear Medicine department.
- Participate in the monitoring of the Nuclear Medicine ‘hot lab’ for radioactive contamination following dose preparation, and assisting with the decontamination and monitoring of clinical areas following a radioactive spill.
- Ensure that specialist cleaning materials and/or decontamination kits, appropriate waste bags and containers are available and replenish stock when needed.
- Participate in the regular review of the Radioactive waste store to ensure it is maintained according to Environment Agency regulations.
- Maintain an equipment log for personal dosemeters, dose rate meters and contamination monitors, organising quality control and calibrations.
- Assist Nuclear Medicine Physicists with the quality assurance testing of imaging and non-imaging equipment within the Nuclear Medicine department.
- Maintain records of personal radiation doses in staff dose records and assist with the distribution and collection of staff radiation badges to ensure timely monthly badge changeovers.
- Assist in the booking and checking of patient appointments relating to their molecular radiotherapy treatment, including any associated imaging procedures. Use the Electronic Patient Record System to complete these tasks.
