**Communications Officer**

**JOB DESCRIPTION**

**Reporting to**:Rector

**Hours**:Up to 18 hours per week (0.52 FTE at 35 hours per week) with occasional evening events or meetings. Core working hours are
9.30am-3pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

**Salary **£26,608 pro rata, i.e. £13,684. Up to 4% employer and 4% employee pension contributions

**Holidays**:Five weeks paid holiday per year pro-rata, plus statutory holidays

**Duration**:Permanent position with monthly reviews during the 6-months’ probation period

**Place of work**:St Paul’s Church, St Paul’s Hill, Winchester S022 5AB

**PURPOSE**

The churches of St Matthew and St Paul are special places in Fulflood and Weeke.

Our strapline ‘Pilgrims on a journey’ expresses the hope that we will catch glimpses of heaven on our life journeys, that we will take steps of faith towards God and each other, and that by sharing life in all its fulness we will witness to God’s presence in an inclusive community.

We seek a creative and enthusiastic Communications Officer to develop and optimise our digital and other communications so that we connect well with each other and the wider community.

**MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

The postholder is responsible for developing and resourcing digital and, where necessary, print communication channels.

**1. Communications planning**
- With the Rector, prepare an annual communications plan which includes the nature and timing of key messages.
- Implement the communications plan, including changes to the plan when required, both coordinating input from others and generating content.

**2. Development & management of communication channels**
Develop and optimise each communications channel, currently:

- Website
- Social Media
- Magazine
- Other printed media

With the Parish Administrator, develop the churches’ use of Churchsuite.

Manage the technology necessary to deliver the churches’ communications.

**3. Generation of content for communications**
- Oversee the generation of content for each channel, ensuring that each operates effectively and efficiently.
- Edit content produced by others for accuracy and appropriateness.
- Produce content, as required, including regarding sensitive issues (e.g. a sudden death), liaising as necessary with clergy and wardens.
- Adhere to the parish’s branding and formatting policies, developing them, in consultation with the Rector, as necessary
- Ensure the distribution of messages via each communication channel in a timely and appropriate manner.

**4. Other responsibilities**
- Liaise, as necessary, with the diocesan and cathedral communications teams o Comply fully with all safeguarding, health & safety and risk management procedures
- Attend meetings as indicated by the Rector
- Other duties commensurate with the role, as may be required

- excellent planning and co-ordination skills
- that they are intuitively collaborative with the capacity to build productive relationships with clergy, staff, volunteers and all others who come into contact with the church
- the ability to lead, enable, encourage and train volunteers to offer their time and skills to support communications
- communicate very effectively both in writing and orally
- the ability to work flexibly and productively as part of a small team while able to use their own initiative when appropriate
