**Job summary**:
His Majesty’s Naval Base Portsmouth (HMNBP) has been an integral part of the city since 1194. It is home to almost two-thirds of the Royal Navy's surface ships, including the new aircraft carriers HMS Queen Elizabeth; HMS Prince of Wales; the formidable Type 45 destroyers; Type 23 frigates; and mine countermeasures and fishery protection squadrons.
The base is a major employer and provides lodging facilities to RN personnel serving at the base and in Portsmouth-based ships.
HMNBP is one of three naval bases providing enabling support as part of the nation’s defence strategy. In doing so, HMNBP seeks to improve through science and technology to strengthen its security and defence at home and overseas. This requires continuous improvements in building capacity, capability and resilience through its people. It is the home base for assigned ships and ship’s companies preparing for operations. A key component of achieving this support is the ability to deliver the full range of increasingly sophisticated engineering support services. **Job description**:
The Single Living Accommodation (SLA) & Facilities Department works under the Deputy Local Service Commander (DLSC)(Portsmouth port area) and is part of Naval Base Commander (Portsmouth)’s (NBC(P)) organisation. Once a singleton role, current accommodation challenges, capacity issues and changes to contract providers have necessitated an expansion in the team to provide far greater level of management than previously required. This small but extremely effective team work together to deliver the required outputs on behalf of DLSC and NBC(P).
The Accommodation Support Assistant is an essential role within a small team without which the team cannot function effectively. The post provides continuity in ensuring the correct standards and processes are in place to provide the best possible accommodation to our service personnel within the constraints imposed upon us.

**Key Responsibilities**:
- Manage and maintain all aspects of the Navy Mews Families facility in HMS Nelson for service personnel, amending procedures when needed.
- Direct a small Navy team with the day to day running of the Navy Mews accommodation, ensuring they are ready for the next occupants.
- Assist in managing and maintaining of Single Living Accommodation (SLA) for serving personnel based in regional area.
- Weekly out muster Survey of rooms, charging occupants for Barrack Damages caused in cabins and highlighting general wear and tear issues through the Helpdesk process. Raising jobs with chain of command/partners as required. Advise Naval Base Infrastructure of non-compliance H&S issues and justification for approval/authorise rectification works from delegated budget which are above £25K.
- Provide a monthly update to inform Naval Base Infrastructure and prioritise contract delivery required to sustain operational capability of our cabins.
- Conduct cleaning rounds with contractor and subcontractor weekly, checking soft service delivery. Check occupants are adhering to accommodation standing orders, escalating through the Chain of Command as required.
- Carry out audits of residents in HMS Nelson for the accommodation office to ensure all occupants living within HMS Nelson are entitled to accommodation.
- Monitor and maintain barrack damage records for audit process. Receive barrack damage records from the contractor. Produce letters to inform occupants of barrack damage charges and advise costs that will be taken direct from salary. Provide data to Accommodation & Facilities Officer (AFO) on a quarterly basis detailing attributable and non-attributable cost.
- Collate monthly accommodation statistics.
- As required, assist with the strategic management of Service accommodation across the port area.
