**The Team**

***This role sits within the Complex Case Unit (CCU). The core mission of CCU is to improve handling of complex and high-risk casework across Natural England, having a critical role in supporting and developing organisational delivery for positive environmental outcomes.

The team role currently focuses on work relating to the implementation of the bovine tuberculosis (bTB) vaccination program, as well as the review, implementation and compliance of licensing for the purposes of preventing the spread of bovine tuberculosis. Moving forward, the team will be looking to expand the work it undertakes into other exciting areas of Wildlife Management. The team is predominantly field based, working nationally throughout the year.

Job description

***With oversight and support from senior team members, the Lead Adviser plays a key role in ensuring effective delivery of licensing field work, advice and casework and driving forward improvements.
- Support the transition in DEFRA bTB policy to vaccination, through vaccination fieldwork and compliance monitoring.
- Proactively contribute to and lead in the development of all aspects of current and future licensing processes to ensure continuous improvement.
- Lead on the delivery of technical advice to all licence holders and potential applicants to support Natural England's statutory responsibilities, including site visits and meetings with licence holders, land holders, groups of farmers, farming organisations and the police.
- Handle or advise on responses to Freedom of Information, EIR requests and public enquiries.
- Undertake field visits in support of all licensing processes, including monitoring actions taken under licences to ensure compliance with licence conditions and best practice.
- Use good judgement to identify emerging problems in this sensitive area of work and provide balanced and consistent guidance and recommendations to the team, liaising with senior team members and others as appropriate.
- Contribute to the development and oversight of other team members as required, for example through providing mentoring or quality assuring work.
- The role requires excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to remain calm and diplomatic when dealing with complex and high-pressure situations.
- Undertake compliance work, or similar challenging situations, with diplomacy and empathy.

**Additional Information**
- The role is heavily field based and will require national travel to locations to undertake work, conduct visits, meetings, and training. This will often require overnight stays.
- Duties will often involve working outdoors day or night, which can be physically demanding, and sometimes during inclement weather conditions - this may include walking for several hours over rough terrain, digging, carrying equipment, sitting for periods of time and visiting working farmyards where livestock may be present.
