The Secretary's Department is also responsible for the Bank's records and archives; the Bank's records management; and the Information Centre.
- The Secretary’s Department sits at the heart of the Bank of England, and has three core purposes:

- First, we contribute to effective decision-making and the smooth running of the Bank. We do this by providing the Bank’s central secretariat to the Bank’s Court of Directors, the Executive and subsidiaries; promote good corporate governance throughout the organisation; and provide advice to Governors on national security issues.
- Second, we help protect the integrity and impartiality of the Bank and its officials. We do this by maintaining and promoting Our Code and advising all levels of the organisation advising all levels of the organisation on conflicts of interest; handling “Speak Up” whistleblowing matters; and identifying, mitigating and managing insider risks.
- Third, we serve as a custodian of corporate information and institutional memory. We do this by cataloguing, preserving and making accessible historic records; acquiring and managing access to information resources, and delivering a professional library service for the Bank; and delivering a records service which manages the Bank’s information and records to meet professional standards and statutory obligations.
- We continue to build an inclusive culture where everyone can be their whole selves and produce their best work. Our focus on inclusion is intended to build greater diversity in order to reflect the society we serve and be an employer of choice.

Recent events have clearly demonstrated the extent to which geopolitical and national security issues can impact the Bank and its objectives. The need to understand these issues will almost certainly only increase. These issues include the impact of acute crises such as how war in Europe affects UK monetary stability or the impact of the next global health pandemic to longer term shifts in the global order such as the UK financial stability implications from US-China rivalry and the change in the Bank’s threat environment from future technology.

The National Security Unit (NSU) was created to improve the Bank’s understanding of national security issues, working with HMG partners to provide Governors and other Bank officials with rigorous analysis on the implications of these issues to support Bank decision-making. We are also responsible for the Bank’s strategy on, and coordinate our engagement with, HMG national security policy.

**Team Overview**

A vacancy has arisen for an exciting new role within the NSU. We are looking for a policy adviser to lead the Unit’s work on ensuring the Bank understands risks to its financial and monetary stability objectives from a range of national security issues.

In your role you will work with partners across the UK national security community and international allies to understand and advise the Bank on the impact and implications of topics of national security. Responsibilities include:

- Lead the National Security Unit’s analytical output on national security issues of relevance to Bank decision-making on matters of financial and monetary stability.
- Develop a deep understanding of the Bank’s view of risks to UK financial and monetary stability, HMG’s national security concerns and their interaction.
- Produce timely, robust and policy-relevant analysis and assessments in a form relevant for your audience. This will include developing a sta
