This is a new post for a Consultant in Sexual Health and HIV and has been developed to enhance and support the existing services. The focus of the role will be innovation, service development and leadership to strengthen the links between our HIV and Sexual Health services.

The postholder will support our contraception services (to Level 3 of the National Sexual Health Strategy) and STI management and will deliver out-patient and in-patient HIV care. There will be the opportunity to develop a special interest. In addition, there will be some general clinical and managerial responsibilities in the department

Lead and develop sexual health, contraception and HIV care in liaison with other members of the Senior Management Team and in partnership with the local sexual health commissioners.

Undertake managerial and administrative roles as required, in consultation with the senior management team (Clinical Lead, Clinical Director and Head of Nursing).

Provide teaching and more advanced training to undergraduates, postgraduates, VTS trainees, nurses and midwives together with other members of the medical staff.

Contribute actively to all aspects of the Trust’s affairs

Manage directly or indirectly the medical staff including appraisals

To teach and train nurses in, for example, non-medical prescribing, fitting IUDs -supporting their ability to provide nurse led clinics.

To supervise and teach Medical Students in clinics and to participate in formal Sexual and Reproductive Health teaching

To help develop and support an on-going programme of clinical audit.

Contribute to the development of clinical and organisational protocols and guidelines
