An opportunity has arisen to join our HIV and Sexual Health service at the North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust in London.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified doctors for a part time post containing 3.50 programmed activities per week as a substantive post within the organisation.

The post holders will be based primarily at the North Middlesex hospital providing HIV inpatient and outpatient care and also deliver sexual health clinics in the community. He/she will be expected to have broad experience in all aspects of Genito-Urinary Medicine and HIV medicine, and provide clinical supervision to junior medical colleagues and the nursing teams.

The job plan involves 1:3 on-call rota for HIV emergencies and advice.

The Alexander Pringle centre (APC) is a self-contained outpatient unit based in the North Middlesex Hospital and offers general HIV outpatient care and inpatient care. The number of patients seen in APC outpatients in 2019 was 1310. In 2019, there were 130 patients admitted or looked after as day-cases.

The HIV consultant body meets fortnightly. There is a multidisciplinary team meeting once a month as well as a monthly clinical governance meeting. There are weekly meetings for teaching, training and to discuss clinical issues as well as fortnightly education meetings with the local HIV network.

The Hospital Consultant body meets monthly as the Medical Staff Committee to discuss issues affecting the Medical Staff as a whole. All consultants are expected to participate in the management of their own Department and the Hospital as a whole, and will be encouraged to develop their management and leadership skills.

Office accommodation with appropriate IT facilities can be made available within the department together with secretarial support.

The appointee will participate in virtual clinics monthly to discuss patients with antiviral resistance, complex antiretroviral histories or comorbidities. The appointee will be well supported by the Clinical director and current consultant colleagues and will be offered a mentor if desired.
