The post-holder will, in conjunction with the existing Consultants, have responsibilities for providing advice, screening, diagnosis and treatment of patients with STIs. They will be committed to developing integrated sexual health services in line with the National Strategy for Sexual Health & HIV. The post-holder will be expected to help lead on innovations or service change designed to achieve local/national targets, develop/expand outreach services, optimise cost efficiency of the service, including implementation of new technologies and development of online services. The post holder will also be expected to provide all aspects of contraception and LARC.

The post-holder will support the directorate service lead for contraception delivery and training, and facilitate FSRH training for the SH services provided by CWFT. They will provide consultant care to those with difficult to insert/remove long acting methods of contraception, including transvaginal ultrasound scanning and other complex contraceptive needs. He/she will be expected to work with colleagues to modernise the integrated sexual health pathways to ensure effective use of resources, shifting asymptomatic patients to e-services. Provision of consultant advice and support to multidisciplinary team working in GUM/SRH clinics is essential and reviewing complex cases requiring senior input.

The post-holder will participate fully in the clinic rota for screening, diagnosis and treatment of outpatients presenting with STIs and other sexual health conditions as well as manage a caseload of patients attending for subdermal Implants and intrauterine devices. He/she will have responsibility for the induction, training and supervision of trainee doctors attached to the service. Developing a fixed regular complexLARCforum across Northwest London is one of the priorities for the Directorate. The post-holder may engage in specific management tasks and contribute to monthly departmental meetings in agreement with the Clinical Lead.

The successful post holder will discuss the use of SPA time with their service director when commencing the post to ensure that supporting activity is in line with the objectives and requirements of the service and the Trust. The appointee should expect that sessions may be re-allocated from time to time to meet changes in circumstances such as the development of new services, changes in consultant staff, expansion or reduction of existing services and the review and implementation of the Business Planning Programme. The appointee may also expect to work evenings and/or weekends within SSC or at other healthcare premises within Chelsea & Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust or outreach services managed by the Trust. The post-holder will share an office with consultant colleagues at the St Stephens Centre, with shared administrative and secretarial support.
