To provide support to young people living within the home.

**Duties and Responsibilities

The Residential Children’s Worker (RCW) will work as a member of a staff team accountable to the Children’s Home Registered Manager.
He / she will undertake a range of duties to support the provision of care with a person-centred approach.
They will work holistically, developing excellent links and close working relationships with other professionals involved with the child and their family.
He/she will be required to work within the policies and procedures of the home. The Residential Children’s Worker will be expected to be actively involved in the development of the service.
He/she will be supervised by a manager of the home.
Within a prescribed working week and with agreement, he/she will follow a flexible working pattern in accordance with management and service requirements; this will include sleeping-in duties at the home or elsewhere if necessary. Where required the RCW may provide services exclusively to a single child or young person and his/her family, including working in the family home or elsewhere. This must be in accordance with the home’s Statement of Purpose/Registration.
The staff member will be expected to work some weekends and Bank Holidays.
A high level of flexibility will be necessary to provide a comprehensive and responsive home/service that is sensitive to the individual needs of children, young people and their families. This will require the Team to provide a wide range of experiences on an individual or group basis, including occupational, social, cultural, and recreational activities, therapeutic support from specialist services ,use of Advocates and be
- friending services as when required.
The ethos of the home will be child/young person centred and based upon a commitment to achieve the best outcomes for young people.
Staff will be expected to have high aspiration for young people and seek life opportunities to support their development.
They will play a key role in ensuring that their home is a warm and welcoming place where the children feel safe secure and loved.
Staff will positively encourage the children to be healthy, take regular exercise and enjoy fun activities, day trips and holidays.
They will support children to develop and encourage independence when they are reaching adulthood, with a plan to support and encourage life skills.
When moving on as an adult staff will support this process to ensure that this goes as smooth and positively as possible.
The family and friends of children will be welcomed and supported.
Staff will develop professional relationships with them and their families or carers. They will work in close collaboration with colleagues/professionals to ensure the very best outcomes for the children.
The style of service will aim to support parents/carers in the exercise of their parental responsibilities, encourage children and young persons to develop a mature understanding of their situation and to learn to exercise personal responsibility and choice in their lives. On occasions the home will be required to provide a safe environment for children and young people who need protection or who exhibit challenging behaviours.
A Residential Children’s worker will be expected to support all children with their religious persuasion, racial origin, cultural and linguistic background
**Main Duties**
**The RCW will be expected to participate in the provision of the full range of services provided both at the home and in the community; he/she will be responsible for**:
Accepting a personal responsibility for implementing positively the policies of Equal Opportunities and Race Relations and for anti-oppressive care practices.
Contributing to the provision of a planned and stimulating environment which reflects positively the diverse racial and cultural nature of society.
Supporting the physical and emotional wellbeing of children.
Participating in the assessment of children and young people and providing services in accordance with an agreed written plan which is reviewed at regular intervals.
Person centred plans will be developed from assessments to ensure each child receives individual support to meet their needs.
The residential Children’s worker will be expected to develop the home around the children, not the children around the home.
Careful planning and consideration will take place when new children move in, Residential children’s workers will take a Key role in ensuring the new children and existing children are compatible
Rigorous placement matching will be expected with a clear homes agreement in place.
