Income Officer - Property and Housing - Newcastle upon Tyne
- To keep arrears debt levels within agreed targets through the proper and effective management of rent/service charges
- To ensure the collection of all charges including rent, service charges eligible and ineligible at both new and existing services.
- To action debt cases in accordance with company policies and procedures and in consultation with Care and Support teams ensuring that clear and comprehensive notes are always recorded
- To be responsible for the promotion of the most appropriate payment method for a customer and updating the system records accordingly.
- To negotiate and undertake escalation of arrears actions, in working with customers and Care and Support teams. Reach an agreement to clear debts where possible, always ensuring that maximum affordable amount is agreed.
- To ensure Housing Benefit determinations are logged and queries dealt with, challenging and appealing decisions where necessary.
- To lead on the development of void procedures and processes and monitor the rent and service charge loss from void units.
- Produce regular reports on loss of income from voids
- To agree and update policies as required
- To provide reports on levels of arrears to senior management as requested and to report on actions taken

**The Successful Applicant**:

- Proven experience of effectively managing complex income recovery/debt cases and maximizing income to the organisation within local authority and / or housing association.
- Experience of the provision of advice and support to tenants on welfare benefits and financial inclusion initiatives
- Demonstrable knowledge of Housing related legislation, managing tenancies and rent arrears pre-action protocol.
- Proven experience of DIY possession proceedings and presenting cases at court
- In depth knowledge of the housing benefit system, universal credit and welfare benefit legislation
- In-depth knowledge of the requirements of delivering a compliant, effective housing service to residents with support needs.
- In-depth knowledge of the legal system such as PCOL/MCOL
